:grin:An Amusing SLK Incident or What Caused the Flash in the Night:grin:

About 8 years my wife and I were using the French Car Train Carrier to go from Calais overnight to Narbonne.

Whilst waiting to be loaded we struck up a conversation with an Australian and his girlfriend who was also going to the same part of France as us.

In chatting it came out that he had borrowed an SLK for a couple of weeks from his cousin, who lived in the UK. He was very enthusiastic about his new ride and said he would read the manual on the train that night.

It was a pity that he had not read it before he drove the car because as we were settling into the couchettes when the trucks with all the cars on came past us maneuvering to hitch on the rear of the train that had already pulled out of the station.

The SLK was flashing it's lights and sounding the alarm because someone had forgot to switch the anti-tow off having not read all about it.

He tried to contact anyone who could help but no luck - The train started off - Nest stop 8 hours and 400 miles.

ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT AS THE TRAIN WENT ROUND THE CURVES THE LIGHTS COULD BE SEEN FLASHING AND OCCASIONALLY A DISTANT HONKING COULD BE HEARD.

It must have been a very good battery because it was nearly dawn when the lights finally died.

Needless to say the French Railwaymen were not amused when they had to put their backs into pushing it along the length of 3 Flatcars.

Every word of this is true but no names to protect the guilty. You know who you are.
