Good evening all,

Following on from a conversation on another thread regarding the above topic.

I can confirm that the SLC43 does require a diff oil change at 1850 miles.
I had mine done today by Mercedes Cheshire Oaks in Chester.

The cost of this is covered by Mercedes.

There was quite a bit of confusion regarding oil but this depends on the size of diff.

The oil used for my change was Castrol Syntrax Limited Slip 75w - 140.

They used 3 half litre bottles and replaced the drain and fill plugs with new and used a sealing compound.

It would appear there should have been a sticker on my windscreen on delivery notifying me of the
oil change requirement. I had none.

I did not purchase from Mercedes Chester so they have been vey helpful.

Hope this info helps.

Cheers

I assume this oil change at 1850 miles is only necessary if you have a the "AMG Performance Pack" with the AMG rear axle limited-slip differential lock. I know this option is standard in the UK, but is is not the case in the other countries. I bought a SLC 43 AMG without this option in Belgium. So, I suppose that an oil change is not necessary for me.

Can you confirm?

My car has now 4500 km (2800 miles) and I want to avoid any future problem...

Thanks in advance for your reply.

This is very good information to know. Thank you

If I have any hassle when booking it in to my local MB dealers then I will either take it to Cheshire LOL or, have them speak to that dealer to be put straight.

Interesting reading , I did purchase my slc 43 from Mercedes Chester and they didn't or still haven't informed me of this required oil change , it's a bit late now as I'm almost on 7000 miles !
Mind you , they never informed me they moved from Chester to Cheshire oaks either ! I think their customer service is shoddy at best , the car is great . It's even more galling when the salesman I bought it from , and gave a glowing reference for , lives in the same town as me , even drinks in the same pub occasionally .
Looks like I'll have to give them a visit and see what they say .
Thanks for the post bringing it to my attention .

Hi Paul,

I would certainly consider giving Chester a call and get the diff oil changed.

Better to be changed at 7000 miles than not at all.

Who was your salesman at Chester?

The sales man was Asher , who will be getting his ear bent today
Hopefully I'll be able to negotiate a discount on a service as a goodwill gesture , as there's a service coming up and I'm driving back to France via Germany then onto Spain in a couple of months , better to have it done before I go .

Had the same problem with my local dealer. Salesman and service department said it didn't need changing, but the manual said it did.

Turned up with that and got them to change it. Didn't cost anything.

Just had an argument with the service guy at Mercedes Winchester. They went as far as telling me that the car didn't even have a limited slip differential, and that I was 100% wrong believing it had one (it's standard on all UK SLC 43s but it's a bit far to expect them to know about the advertised spec on a model they sell :rolleyes: )

I had to call Mercedes UK who put me through to an AMG expert who confirmed it did have the slip and did need the oil change, and I had to give the phone to the service guy to tell him that it needed doing. Very poor information out there on this, especially if the only way to get the oil change done is to get Mercedes UK to tell the dealer over the phone to do the work!

I was waiting for the guy to tell me I didn't have a lsd , it's one of the reasons I bought the car , if he had I was going to put him in the passenger seat and do a few drift style donuts around the car park to show him what a lsd does !

Hi Paul.

They wouldn't have liked you to do that!

You would have made a mess of their beautiful new car park...lol

Who did you speak to in service? They should all know about the oil change after my intervention a few weeks back.

It helps when you do part time driving for them and can be a pain in the arse>:D

Are you going on the Midlands meet at Oswestry on the 9th July?

Regards

Like it or not it wouldn't have stopped me doing it , I'm not one for respecting rules
Meets and car club type shows aren't really my thing so unfortunately I'll not be attending , your welcome to follow me down to Germany for a couple of days at the ring mid August .
They had to ask about the oil change but obviously you had alerted them to it .

Check this out , I've just returned from dropping my car off for a very early service as I'll be using it in mainland Europe for a bit of a road trip and would far exceed the service limits .
When I booked the service I questioned the lsd oil change , the guy knew nothing about it but checked and confirmed it was due at 1850 miles , when he questioned why I hadn't brought it in I told him that the first I learnt of the necessity for the change was from reading about it on here , also that Mercedes Chester hadn't even informed me that they had moved which led me to making a twenty minute detour to find their new premises !
I drop the car off this morning and they swear blind they don't know anything about the oil change , he checks and comes back to tell me as it should have been returned at 1850 miles I'll have to pay for the oil change !
This is after being asked by the salesman to lie on his behalf by saying I'd had a test drive of the car before purchase , they didn't have one at the time . I also paid some of the deposit in cash which mysteriously was twenty quid short after I'd checked it twice , my wife actually paid it as I was away at the time . I deal in cash all the time in fairly large amounts and never make mistakes with it as I always check and re check .
I'm struggling to find a reason to buy another Mercedes next time I replace a car , and I definitely wouldn't buy from the Cheshire branch , they didn't even know I'd bought the car from them in the first place .
If you read this tom could you pm me your full name please , just so I can tell them that they've already done the oil change for you and therefore should be more than aware of it .
Thanks in advance

On holiday and WiFi sporadic.

No probs , I sorted it out ! I'm still less than pleased with customer service but they apologised and did the diff oil change for free eventually . I probably won't bother with them again but it's a shame as I'm the most loyal customer anyone could wish for when I get good service .
Thanks for replying though
Cheers

Hi

Just had my LSD oil change done at Mercedes Whitefield. No issues at all getting it booked in, the chap on the phone seemed to know all about it.

Asked the mechanic why it wasn't made clear in Assyst or the manual and he said the dealer should have pointed it out when we bought the car.

Lucky for him we bought the car from Stoke!
