I just returned from Road Atlanta after attending the AMG Driving Academy. The day was one of top 10 days of my life! There were about 55 AMG's there, all new, and all in pristine condition. The event was extremely well organized; there was no waiting around and no wasted time or confusion. I got at least 5 hours of "seat time" in every type AMG Mercedes offers.

We were given multiple opportunities to drag race, slalom, gymkhana, drift, and hot lap at the Road Atlanta track. The instructors encouraged us to drive beyond our comfort zone and stretched us to improve at every opportunity. The instructors talked to us over the AMG's stereo system via radios... giving instruction and improvement opportunities!

It's expensive, at $1,750/day ( if you have a new AMG the day is free), but I promise you I scrubbed off enough tires, brakes, and consumed enough fuel that $1,750 would be a bargain.

If you ever get the opportunity, it's a grand time!

Very encouraging that you had such a good experience. Headed to ADA Basic at Lime Rock in a few weeks...and most of the day will probably be "out of my comfort zone"...but that's why I'm going. :D

That sounds like a blast. When my AMG arrives, I will have to take advantage of that. Were there very many participants? How many participants do they put with an instructor? If I do this, I'll probably pony up the $1750 for my wife to play as well.

Hi thom

Thanks for sharing the AMG Driving Academy day's events. I'll be attending at Lime Rock in two weeks. I'm getting more & more excited about this meet. I'm definitely looking to play in an SLS. But I also want to be sure I test the limits of the SLK 55 so that I experience what my 2013 SLK 55 can really do. Thanks again!

there were 50 or so of us split into groups on different activities, worked really well...you rarely ride with the instructor, but follow him as he speaks to you through an in car radio...

There were about 48 participants, and we were split into 4 teams (each team had about 12 participants). Each team had two instructors. Each instructor would participate with 1/2 the team which would be about 6 participants. The six participants would be in 3 cars at each event (2 participants in each car). One participant would drive through each event a couple of times, then switch places.
If you're fortunate enough to be "odd man out", you get to drive twice as much, but loose the value of learning from the a "partner" participant.

I would have really enjoyed my wife being there for the safety value of the many techniques we were taught; especially steering through cones when anti-lock brakes were activated, and skid control. But then my wife is not at all into driving at high speed on the track and would have been somewhat of a "drag" on those who wanted to go faster. That being said, the 2nd place overall winner of the gymkhana was a woman, and the wife of another participant stayed on my bumper as if she was glued to it 1/2 the time, the other 1/2 I was trying to keep up with her!

Great day, can't say enough good things about how well organized the event was. The instructors were both encouraging and challenging!

Laguna Seca

Anyone going to Laguna Seca? I'll be there Nov 6th and 7th.
I'll be there for the AMG 'Lounge' day on the 8th. Flying into Cali on the 5th, and the wife and I will be putting around the northern part of the state until the evening of the 7th, when I'll be arriving for my track day. This is actually my 'complementary' AMG day - which I was able to get extended past my one year of ownership (1 year in Aug 2013). Requested that because when I purchased and went to schedule my track day, pretty much all of the slots at my 'preferred' track(s) were already filled - so after a bit of negotiation, AMG granted me an exception :bannana:.

Did ADA at Lime Rock on Sept. 18th. A perfect day. Weather was beautiful, instructors were great and the cars were amazing. They keep you moving, hardly any down time. Could have spent an hour just on the skid pad. You'll have a blast doing the autocross in the SLK. Our team won!
