Before any of you critics get to talking down upon me and say "Ohhhhh brother you don't know what you're talking about doing you'll need to stiffen the chassis to handle the power as well as upgrade brakes, driveline, differential, the trans itself along with clutch components and a custom bell housing- not to mention the likely silly amount of ECU work that presents itself blah blah blah." Please only respond if you can help me, as well as the forum move forward on the basis of Later Model (2005+) Mercedes-Benz ECU and Trans correspondence as well as anyone who knows anyone with expertise regarding custom Transmission work.

I drive a Launch Edition 2005 SLK 350 (R171) with a Manual Transmission.
The car is complete and running.

I'm fortunate enough to be in a position where I have full complete ignition setups for all sorts of vehicles in my surround, and if it really is possible to do a crazy cool engine swap such as the one in the link it would be financially feasible for someone in my field.

The 6.2L Motor used in 08-14 C63 and other "63" cars was just appealing to me because it's a very stout motor that can also rev freely and breathe flexibly. In addition to this, I currently have access to a 2007 E63 AMG Full ignition setup. This includes the Engine brain, Ignition, Key, Immobilizer, Gauge Cluster, Shifter, as well as Engine, Trans, and Transmission Valve Body for an incredibly reasonable price in comparison to what people would normally pay for these items.

If you think you could provide any further information about this topic, or think you know of anyone who may be able to shed some light, please let me know- as I would really like to create something special.

As a fellow SLK Stixer who has seen even Cadillacs (CTR) offered with manual transmissions with only 4 cylinder SLKs these days still coming with the option I SALUTE you!!

On the technical end, is there any way you can do simulations of the power train components prior to hooking it all up, or how would you decide on the specific transmission to mate with engine?

Please keep us posted.

Hi All
My thinking would be , Get a low mileage SLK 55 , login on to Kleemann web site & order everything they sell that will fit on the SLK 55 , Time & money wise I think it a better option & more sellable later on . I know its not what you want to hear but you posted & you only wanted replies that could help you on trying to save you from a very black deep hole & still not have a running car at the end , there was a post afew years ago about a chap who took his SLK to a mod shop & asked to have the largest engine AMG produces put in his SLK & make it like a factory produced vehicle. I'm sure someone can find the post

Sorry if this does not help

Cheers

Andy

Building a SLK63.... Wonderful.

Why do people build boats or build their own aeroplane?

It's clearly about the journey, the challenge and having the model exactly as they want it.

One issue is crash protection systems.
Is it possible to establish that none of the systems you are changing interface to crash systems or ESP differently between the two vehicle types?

As a thought, the German forums may have more material on this topic, and they are closer to the original Design Engineers.
There will be a person who knows exactly what detail changes are required, but how to find them?

Then again, There was the SLK R170 built onto a G-Wagon chassis for Jim Rogers who then it drove around the world, so anything is possible.

Good luck with this project, it's a grand challenge.
