hi, I have an 01 slk320 and since it snowed yesterday, my alarm keeps going off.. the lights blink , but no sound.. also my tow light is on all the time.
I saw a thread relating to the battery inside the alarm horn , but i'm not sure if that's what is causing the alarm to go off.. I also had the rear tires replaced last week.. may be a coincidence.. or maybe not..

can someone help me out? thanks!

in the mean time is there a fuse I can pull to keep the alarm from going off ? right now i just have to keep the doors unlocked!

thanks in advance!

got it #9! I pulled it .. no more dome light horn or trunk light... but i guess that's better than a dead battery tomorrow... now I got to find the root cause!

thanks for the post!

im a little confused.. everything points to a bad alarm battery, but I read that the main car battery should still make the alarm go off...and sound the horn.. my lights flash but no sound.. does this mean the horn is bad all together ?i've also seen to check my pse pump...? I have a popping sound coming from the trunk.. it's been doing this for a while.
I just could never really locate the location... kinda sounds like fireworks at a distance...

could this be the issue ? the tow light stays on all the time....

also , when I lock the car .. the lights flash 3 times... is this normal? i always assumed it was.. it's been like that since I bought it in June...

thanks in advance!

Classic symptoms of a wet PSE pump. Search the forum for wet PSE pump threads and you'll find tons of info.
In the mean time, pull out the trunk carpeting, spare tire, jack kit, etc. On the right side you'll see a foam box, pull it out (carefully) and you'll find the PSE inside. Dry the trunk floor (I bet it's wet), dry the PSE pump out (I've had good luck just blowing on it with a warm hair dryer for awhile). Then make sure your trunk seal is installed correctly and the drains (in the trunk through and fuel fill areas) are clear and following well.
Then wrap the wires going into the PSE with some paper towel (keeps water from wicking down them onto the pump) and re-install everything. The foam box is a bit of a struggle to get back in place, so be patient.

i plan on trying to do just that , I have the 6 cd changer in the back as well, do I need to remove that first to get to it ? or is it below ? it got dark and 20 degrees on me last night (in TX go figure) so I have not had a chance to look.

also , since my alarm siren does not seem to be working , what is a good place to buy one of those aside from the dealer ?

ahaha.. you again !! well , I looked at the other link you had sent me and they had the part for $132 .. a quick internet search showed that that was a good price , so I bought it ... i see now that this iste has it a little cheaper .. oh well it's already done !!!

my next step will be to tear down the trunk and find the rest of the goodies that could cause the problem ....

I'm no mechanic , but I do have a degree in Electronics, so I should be able to figure out that part ...

hopefully she will get all fixed up and be back 100%

my car is an 01 slk 320 , I bought it back this summer with 39k miles on it ... it spent most of it's life in California , then the rest in south Texas ... so this is the first time it's ever seen snow or cold weather ....

all kind of little problems are surfacing ... it also has small valve cover leaks forming it seems .... that and the "popping" faint "fireworks " sound once in a while ....

almost forgot to mention the lock for the gas door is also missing .. maybe that's what is popping once in a while trying to close (I guess it's vacuum operated too)...

I don't even know how to gt to that either.... !!

what a learning experience !!!

You should probably sign up for the Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC). Mercedes will give you access to the same screens that their Parts people use - put in your VIN# and it will show you most of the parts in your car.

Go to STARTekInfo.com and sign up. They will ask for a credit card # but the service is free for people located in the US. This thread shows you how.

Our alarm was doing the same thing. Read about the PSE pump and checked it.... It was dry. Pulled the alarm and replaced it, problem solved.

Confused

Help
Battery on siren failed and on inspection interior had leakage. So purchased a new one and plugged new one in only to find alarm went off immediateley! Waited for it to reset after 30 seconds which it did. For 5 seconds then went off again. This continued until I disconnected the alarm siren. Checked all the locking funtions and they are fine locks ...3 flashes, unlocks one flash. Boot locks correctly and all manual key loking works as it should. So I thought I would check PSE as suggested elsewhere. Dust free and bone dry no sign of water ingress and foam also bone dry. Everything works as it should until the siren alarm is connected when the car then has a hissyfit ....still locks and unlocks but siren continuously goes off until disconneted! Siren is same part number as the old unit so it should work by plug and play? Any help would be appreciated. Everything works as it should just the siren stays on. I have a 2002 SLK320 but im sure that doesnt affect the post or solution?

Many thanks
