I got a BabySmart car seat for my SLK finally and when reading my owners manual it tells me to test the functionality first. So I did what it asked which was to remove the carseat and then:

"Turn key to position 1 or 2 and the Passenger Airbag light will extinguish after six seconds". My airbag light "dims" but stays on. Book says if this happens to take it to the dealer.

Anybody had this happen? A search didn't turn up much. Maybe me being a bone head though.

Thanks!

You read it right. Sounds defective. Seatbelt on seat not latched, right?

If the indicator lamp should not come on or is
continuously lit, the system is not functioning. You must
see an authorized Mercedes-Benz Center before seating
any child on the passenger seat.

That is correct. The seat belt is not latched. I even tried Googling around and couldn't find much.

well, it is either defective or time to reboot the car.

I'm trying to determine what is defective though. Is it a sensor or the physical seat itself? Any clues as to what "it" is?

Advising to reboot, I assume you mean unhook the battery and let it sit a few?

if an adult sits in the passenger seat, does the airbag light go off?

No, I sat in it and nothing happened with the car off and in 1/2 or cranked. I even put 40 lbs of crap on the front seat and put it in gear and drove it down the driveway and it's still on. That may not be enough weight, I may try some of my weights and see if it makes a difference.

Will also unhook the battery for a while and wait.

yes, rule out that with an adult in the passenger seat it is working ok. question is, should the light be on or off with an adult in the seat and the car started?

- Checked the fuse panel for any blown fuses as well just for giggles. Nothing.
- Left the battery unplugged a while and nothing
- Placed 95 lbs of weight + my 5 year old on the seat and the light does not go off. Put car in gear and moved up / down the driveway just to check

I left a voicemail with my MB Service Dude. Just waiting on a response at this point.

My wife got home from training yesterday and I had her sit in the car as we went out for the afternoon and the light never went off.

Also never got a call back from my dealer. A little annoyed.

there are 2 connectors that you can see with a flashlight from the front under the seat. make sure they are connected, and the wires to them are not broken off.
