Part of the B Service Schedule is to check and clean the Air Filter if necessary.

Is there a correct way to do this - such as using the K&N Cleaning Kit (cleaner + oil)? Or do you simply replace the air filter?

Interesting that the service schedule says to "check and clean" rather than "replace".

On my R171 in the U.S., it calls for its replacement approximately every four years. I find in my area they get pretty dusty, so I go ahead and change them myself approximately every 2 years.

I use the stock filters, so I do simply replace them. One can say it's in my head, but when I change them, I always think I notice a difference.

The 171 has an open ram air inlet prior to the filter.
Anything in front of the car will be ingested: bugs, leaves, birds, pedestrians…
