For those who are going to replace the Accelerator Pedal in their R170 and have read where it is difficult to remove the washer located under the 10mm nut, I have a tip. I removed the pedal assembly and replaced with a new one in less than 15 minutes. Here is how I did it.

1. Remove cap covering the nut and remove the nut.
2. After looking at the washer and probing it with a pick I realized the washer had plenty of room to be removed over the threads of the bolt, but was being wedged to one side by the pedal assy. itself. When I pushed forward on the pedal the washer would be very loose.
3. I took a piece of thin cardboard and rolled it into a tube shape that would go over the bolt threads and reach down to the washer and taped the cardboard so it would hold that shape.
4. Next, take a small piece of duct tape and lay it over one end of the tube so the sticky side is up, then take more tape (masking tape or something similar) and wrap around the tube to hold the duct tape in place.
5. Cut an "X" into the duct tape so the tube will go down over the bolt threads.
6. Once over the threads and applying downward pressure to make the duct tape stick to the washer I pushed forward on the pedal assy. to relieve the pressure against the washer.
7. Slowly turn the tube counter clockwise and lifting up gently as if you were unscrewing the washer from the threads on the bolt. IMPORTANT: Keep the forward pressure on the pedal assy., in order, to keep the washer from being wedged against the threads. This is a feel as you go kind of thing. It took me two tries to get it, and walla!! it lifted the washer out.
8. The rest of the replacement was simply pulling the pedal assy. aft and out, unplugging the two wire connectors and replacing with a new pedal assy.
9. don't forget to reset the computer using the instructions on this site and in the manual.

A Pic of the Tube.

Accelerator assy. replacment

wHY DID YOU NEED TO REPLACE THE ASSEMBLY? i THINK I MIGHT NEED TO DO MINE. tHANKS
The car would hesitate when pressing on the gas pedal. I would do the reset procedure, but it would begin to hesitate during acceleration almost immediately. After reading several threads on the issue I replaced the Acc. Assy. and it fixed the issue. Now my car runs like new. I found a place to buy the OEM new part at half the price the dealer wanted.
