Hi all so I'm about to have delivered a 2005 SLK 55 AMG. Never had a merc before, last car was a Porsche Boxster 3.2S. So I'm a little excited and anxious as I've not seen the car in person yet (was bought privately from someone 300 miles away!).

Was just wondering if you guys might be able to walk me through what I should check when first going over the car to make sure everything is safe, and also maybe any ongoing maintenance tips.

Here are a couple pics of it.

Some tips to make your visit here more enjoyable:
If you haven’t, please use the 'search' feature at the top right of the page for your questions as they have probably been asked before. Remember, ‘Search’ is your friend.
If you wish to become PM (Private Message) capable, you need 15 posts. To get those 15 posts quickly, just go to the ‘New members introduce yourself here’ section and welcome enough new members to obtain your needed posts to PM.
Want to post a picture? Start a new thread or make a post, click ‘edit’, click on the ‘paper clip’ or ‘advanced’ and/or ‘manage attachments’ then ‘choose file’ then ‘upload’ and ‘submit’! If Iphone pics, you need to rename any additional pics as Iphone names its pics all the same, image.jpg.
Want to ‘like’ or thank’ someone’s comments? Use the ‘like’ button to the right or the ‘Thanks’ button, bottom right of any post you like. This saves you having to comment.
New members should be aware that the 'New Posts' link next to the 'Search' link top right of the info bar is a great way to see all of the posts you have missed since you were on the forum last. Remember to click 'mark forums read' under ‘quick links’ when you leave.

Wow, lovely reception, feels very cosy already!

Thanks for the warm welcome guys and reading material :surprise:

So took delivery of and saw my SLK 55 AMG car for the first time today. OMG It's spotless and looks better than I expected. Alloys, bodywork and interior are immaculate. Colour - better than pics. No idea what colour is called!? It's a kind of bluish metallic and changes colour in different light.

I took another pic so you can see what I mean. (looks black now!)

Inside is spotless - Can't believe it's 13 years old, you'd never know.

Anyway very excited to take it for a spin. Funny thing was got rejected for insurance by my current (refused multi-car option) and previous insurance companies can you believe it. I got full NCB, no history of accidents, no points on licence and they still refused me, like wtf! Cherry picking insurance underwriters, damn them to hell! Totally immoral but what can you do. Anyway found one eventually (axa) paid just over £600 comprehensive! Is that a good price??
