Hi I am Richard from Singapore. If you have never been here, its a little RED DOT on the tip of the Malaysian Peninsular. The island is smaller than most large cities in the States. We have a pop of about 5 million people largely of Asian descent but lots of foreigners work and live here. Its a safe country and you can walk the streets late at night without being mugged unless of course you are really unlucky.

I just traded in a E240 for an SLK350. It came with the set of wheels with the tyre sizes as follows:- Front- 225/40/R18 Back -255/35/R18
Anyone familiar with tyre sizes for this model? Understand its more stable.

Welcome from NE England. Last time I was working in Singapore was in the early 90s - Raffles had just opened after a major refurb, and half of Dover Road was being knocked down.

Welcome to slkworld.com from Weddington, NC

I've been to your "little RED DOT". We stayed at the Pan Pacific and enjoyed our stay a lot. Quite warm there! :tu:

Welcome from Southern California.

You asked about tire sizes. By design, SLK R171 (2005-2011) vehicles use mixed tire sizes, slightly wider in the rear. I've used this type of offset on other sports cars as well. The idea is to give you slightly more traction at the rear wheels where the power meets the road, and it looks more aggressive. AMG's user wider tires all the way around, for better handling and braking but at the expense of slightly lower fuel economy, not to mention higher price for the tires themselves compared to more narrow options.

The specs for SLK280/350:
front: 225/45 R17 91W
rear 245/40 R17 91W.

55AMG models:
front: 225/40 ZR18 92Y XL (Extra Load)
rear: 245/35 ZR18 92Y XL (Extra Load)

Source: 2006 Mercedes-Benz SLK owners manual, available online at mbusa.com

So, your tires match the AMG spec.

I've been to Singapore, but only briely while redeploying from Diego Garcia for Desert Storm. First experience in a high density asian city - real eye opener.

Someone on here might be able to discuss the wheels with you - offset, and clearance for the brakes and wheel arches may be critical.
