Hello all,

Had my (or my wife's - depending on which of us you ask) SLK320 R170 for five months since selling the Jaguar XJR but not had much chance to put it through its paces as in the middle of a large building project at home.

I'm a driver first and foremost. I have built two cars from scratch, a 140 mph Mini Marcos and a NCF Diamond (4x4) which I used to go off-roading in. I have loved cars since my first Fiat 850 Coupe (that'll give you an idea on my personal vintage). I also drive a Jaguar Aristocat that has a road/race 4.5 litre lump in it and a Nissan X-Trail Aventura for when the snows come. Unfortunately, and this is indicative of the way my life has been, since I bought the 4x4 five years ago, we've not had a spot of snow alight on this green and pleasant land.

First observations of the SLK is its manual gearbox, it seems to be a bit notchy, not very smooth, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. Hopefully that's not an indication of future problems, the previous owner seemed quite fastidious in its upkeep, as I intend to be. I tend to drive quickly on open roads, depending on the road conditions. I'm not a fan of driving at motorway speed limits if its empty.

Usually the first thing I do when buying a car is find out its limits, but as I mentioned earlier, I've not really had the time to do so, but am looking forward to it. Each year we go on a 3000+ mile road trip to mainland Europe and will more than likely take the SLK as opposed to the Jag. Unfortunately due to the previous owner fitting a Rausch bodykit, I won't be able to follow the Aristocat's laps around the Nürburgring as I suspect I'll bury the front spoiler into the tarmac once my right foot is down.

Once I've read a good few threads, I'll be sure to contribute, but am looking forward to being part of the Community.

Hi and welcome to SLKWorld.com from the UK Midlands - Thanks for joining us and posting an intro! :)

We have quite a few members in the UK that like to meet up from time to time, although things are a little quieter during the winter months. If you're interested in joining us sometime, just keep an eye on the UK Region section, as we post meeting plans there! :tu:

There's a summary post that I maintain for all UK meets here, and links to examples and pictures from this year's past meets are available here.

Finally, we also recently started plotting where our UK members are - check out the thread for that here: SLKWorld UK & Ireland Members and Meeting Points Map

Thank you
Dave

Welcome from the Wirral.

Great intro. Not had a 320 but I didn't find the 230K gearbox notchy.
Maybe time to change the tranny fluid?

From your first para I suggest you brace yourself for his and hers SLKs.

We got the 230 to see if it was for us without going too expensive for a fun car.
The other two cars sat whilst we played first up has the SLK.
Ended up with a 350 and 55.

You're a seasoned veteran of Euro tours but if you'd like to get a feel of how the SLK goes
there are several threads on previous tours.
Look forward to seeing yours added.

Do have a read of the UK region. Some events aren't too far from you.
Reading this years archive http://www.slkworld.com/united-kingdom-region/313178-2016-uk-meet-calendar-2.html#post2834530 will give you an idea of full and fun the UK scene is.
