but older keyfobs are hard to get.. not made anymore

 

I figured as much. Coming from a honda platform so this is gonna be a steep learning curve. Wonder if they wll charge me an arm and a leg for it here.

It's not the first time this has been posted. Have a search on the forum.
You have some options.
1.Talk to MB. You not only need keys but also the transponder chip to talk to the immobilizer (DAS)
2. Buy a set of keys locks and DAS etc from eBay.

The problem is they are NLA, and prices are high, but you can speak with the dealer for non CL key, that will unlock all and will start the car. All VIN coded. If you get No Way from dealer, then everything else.

It's called a Valet Key That's good thinking though, IIRC someone on here bought a couple for their motor not so long back

 

Good call Mark, Since I started breathing them chemicals ( old oil, brake cleaner, fuel, mix of them all....) I am non stop with headaches. There are moments I don't remember what I am about to do, because when I bend over to pickup a tool the headache is crushing my scull... do you really want me to remember what key it is!?!? Vin encoded, plug and play

Update got the key from the dealership, and it worked just like a charm. Opened all of the locks as well. 360$ went down the drain though.

 

I know we mentioned 2 type of keys, which one you got?

Reading and re-reading and...it sounds like it was NLA with MB, untill it became available with aftermarket suppliers.

True but main dealers are sometimes wierd. I couldn't get a BMW key for a UK registered car in Spain. BMW didn't permit it so they said. Had no problem getting one on Finland.
