Well I wasn't in the SLC but in my 4x4, wet day, no sun, cold north wind and 3 deg C.
Is it because Morgan drivers are generally more extreme, woolly hat, fleece and shades!
What kind of temp would you drop your lid on your SLK/C.
For me its generally 10 Deg C and only if the sun is out!:frown:

Can't believe you wrote that.
Let me see, you have a car with a powerful heater, heated seats, Airscarf & a wind blocker & you wait for sun or 10 degrees before putting the roof down! Why did you buy a convertible when a dreary box saloon with a sunroof would do the job?
Have you NEVER driven on a fresh cold day with the SUN shining & realised how the cabin of the SLK/SLC becomes a cocoon of warmth? Better still driving an open car on a moonlit night is divine. Even on dull overcast days the sense of being liberated from the claustrophobic interior is a joy & the Government have yet to tax motoring fresh-air lovers. .At absolute speeds I admit a scarf or neck warmer such as bikers use helps but I have had to turn the heater DOWN sometimes as it can get so hot. Maybe you live 'up North' where I know it can get a bit chilly but come on 'man up'.
To be honest on very hot days I have preferred the roof up & the air con on, but as with the heater the air conditioning can make the cabin a chilled cocoon with the roof down.

I am of the ilk that if it ain't raining, the top is down. With the scarf and the heated seat, it's like being tucked in bed with the window open. Personal low was 38 F (3 C) at night. And that with just a hoodie sweatshirt as I headed to the rink. I keep a toque and a pair of gloves in "Tom" just in case an opportunity arises.

Had a few Jags with Lucas heaters best capable of "less cold" when a towel was placed in front of the radiator. OTOH it is entirely possible that the Morgan driver:
1) Did not have a top
2) Could not figure out the erector set
3) Had just left the pub
4) Was a Swede.

Ah there's some hardy souls on this forum all right!
I should have said that top down at night is a joy especially in the moonlight here on the Somerset levels.
Even so when a wuss like me has the roof down at least half of the convertibles I see on the roads including SLK's have the roof up.
Maybe the SLKs have their boots ram jam full of shopping!

I've driven to work on some bright sunny frosty mornings.....

....but can also say that We've also driven in snow with the roof tucked away in the boot...!!! >:D
Where driving up Grossglockner Pass in the Alps - As We climbed the weather deteriorated and started to snow, not to much of a problem while doing 20 to 40mph, but did put the roof up as soon as this picture was taken @ 2500m:

Well, I think my record was around -7 C or so. With a good sheepskin jacket and a sheepskin Flirgerhaube that wasn’t too uncomfortable - rather a very nice experience in fact Well, I did feel pity about the car’s interior...

Is it my imagination but I think other drivers either think I'm a show-off or are envious when they see me driving a Mercedes sports car in winter with the top down? I seem to get tailgated more often especially on Sundays when some poor sod lumbered with endless kids & thus has to drive a glorified nappy van sits on my exhaust as if to prove he is as fast as me. If it's a van its a privately owned Chavved up VW with big alloys.
Maybe my wearing a flat cap & no doubt looking older than 40 emphasises I'm old school, probably retired & have the money to indulge. I have freedom they don't.

A baseball cap would give you more street cred or perhaps a dummy shotgun on the passenger seat! :wink:

like a couple of alpine newbies, set off from the bottom with the top off and wearing short-sleeved shirt and shorts ( it was the end of August....in the valley). By the time we go to the glacier car park, I had rummaged through the boot to find anything I could wear over my 'optimistic' attire. Ended up walking around with a Barbour jacket. ( which I kept in there for the unexpected) I didn't 'arf look daft. and cold. The mem of course had several couture options open to her:wink:

Don't know about SLK(SLC), but did 110 km/h on a C4 corvette, topless, at -25 celsius.

Wasn't too inconvenient.

Well, I didn't get to -25 C but only -20 C, and that was on a 650 Triumph TT at night and 100 km/hr. So cold that at stop lights, reached down and grabbed the exhaust pipes just after the connection at the heads, held on until I felt warmth, then let go. When gripping the handlebars again, the heat in the gloves was burning hot, but only for a minute or so. Ruined a good pair of riding gloves. 45 minute ride at that temp. As the bike was my only means of transportation, had no choice in the matter. No leather jacket either, just a cheap vinyl copy of a M/C jacket. Oh, to be young and stupid again. My face and toes seemed like hours to warm back up at the end of the journey.

Ah I remember such youthful folly well, used to travel to work on my Rocket Gold Star in the cold winter.
Arrived at work with hands so cold had to put them in a sink full of warm water to get the circulation back. Happy days! or were they!
I was so desperate to keep warm I bought an old Reliant three wheeler, hideous vehicle but at least it had a heater and enable me to practice enough to pass my car test.
