Hi I am on my second SLK, first one was a R170 special edition Kompressor200 in silver.
My second owned since May this year is a 2004 silver r171 with all the toys.
I havnt had need to call you guys until now.
I took the car off the road for the winter and covered it. I went to start it after a month and the battery was flat! At first I thought the key batteries were gone but later found the ariel needs to be fitted to give a good signal.
I fit a new battery and proceeded to start the car but at first it wouldnt turn over?
I tried again and it fired up but I had to calibrate the windows to lower when doors were opened or shut. I thought Great. But when I tried to start it again Nothing all dash lights come on but no engine turning? I tried the spare key again the same?
Do the keys have to be linked to the car again? have they lost their memories?
does any one have Ideas? Please..
Dave.

Keys do not need to be synched to the car.
you are sure it is a great new battery?

make sure all battery ground and cables are good and secure

try a battery reset
disconnect the neg cable for a minimum of 30 minutes
reconnect and reset/synch windows and clock
try to start again.

get yourself a battery tender also

Hi Dave, and welcome from the UK Midlands! :)

As Jeff has said, keys should not have to be re-paired to the car. If his suggestions don't help, then perhaps there's some other issue, not directly related to the battery. Rule that one out first though, but then perhaps check starter motor.. Good luck, and I hope you get it resolved quickly.

After that, perhaps either leave the battery disconnected while it's laid-up, or use a battery tender to keep it topped up.
