Hi everyone, i am new to the forum so i may ask questions which have already been covered. Sorry in advance.

I recently bought a 2001 SLK230K but the roof is not working, i can hear the motor working but nothing happens. The roof slight moves as if its straining but nothing, The windows dont go down either. I dont know if this is related but the electric seats have stopped working but do sometimes when i hit bump lol. Any help would be appreciated, the hydraulic fluid is just in between the two lines and i haven't come across any leaks.

Thank you in advance.

. . . i can hear the motor working but nothing happens. The roof slight moves as if its straining but nothing, . . .

All things being equal, when you pull the roof switch back, three things start to happen all at the same time.

1a) the windows go down,
1b) the roof unlatches,
1c) the trunk lid opens.

Only then does the system continue to where the roof starts to physically fold back/retracts.

Nothing else should happen unless these first three operations are confirmed by their limit switches. So if the quarters are not going down, the roof will not fold back. So my suggestion here would be to make sure the switches are changing state. (Particularly with what ever controls the quarter windows.)

Sorry, I don't have an easy way to do this, I've never had any issue with my switches. The roof latch switches shouldn't be too hard to check, but you will need to remove the headliner to get to them; if you are willing ro undo some of the wire bundles in the trunk, all the switch wires eventually wind up back near the pump. I would suspect that there is a connector you can check there, but you still might have to remove some of the panels. Some of the other folks here have had more experience with the electronics. (My area is more the mechanics.)

Hope that helps . . .

Thank you for the replies. The windows work perfectly normal. When I press the switch all I hear Is the motor and the roof squats slightly. The electric seats are not working but I don't think that should be related.

I bet your roof top cylinder is sticking or needs a rebuilt. Manually unlock the roof top and see what happens then.

When my top cylinder needed repair, nothing else would open (windows, trunk, etc(.

Option 2: Did you check to make sure the roof wasn't manually closed before? Check to be sure the air release valve screw on the pump is tight.

You could also have a broken switch behind the right roof cylinder. This would make the roof think its in a different position than it is. a partial manual open may help identify the culrprit. Good luck!
