While everybody else was focusing on hybrids and whatnot, Mercedes elves spent an eternity making a brand new G-Class which is just like the old one only better. The outcome is perfectly summed up by this 2019 G63 review from Britain.
Mat from Carwow says the G63 is a car most people should avoid buying but if you are rich enough to have one and enjoyed the last generation, immediately switch over to the 2019 model.
The G-Boss is like something from another era, a time when men smelled like cigarettes, and nothing was politically correct. However, look past the exposed door hinges or square indicators, and you will find the ultimate luxury vehicle. Stepping inside, or rather climbing inside the 2019 Mercedes-AMG G63 is like going from the iPhone 4 to the iPhone X.
Sadly, that's also where some of the petty flaws start to pop up. For example, the twin screens in the G-Class aren't as high-tech as those in the GLE. Also, Mercedes used inferior materials for the rear passenger air vents and the side window toggles. That might seem insignificant until you realize how expensive it is.
We have no complaints about the engine, though. As we saw in recent drag races and acceleration videos, this is a monster. The V8 went from a 5.5-liter to a 4.0, but now delivers 585 HP and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft) of torque. Mercedes claims 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds, which doesn't explain how a recent test indicated 4.2 seconds.
But to get the maximum speed, you'll need the AMG Driver’s Package, which will lift top speed from 220 km/h (137 mph) to 240 km/h (149 mph). The old G63 would have been a deathtrap when going that fast, but this new model has much better front suspension and a modern steering system. Despite the increased use of aluminum, it's still a 2.5-ton vehicle, but one that outpaces the Range Rover Sport SVR.
