We already know that the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class will feature major tech upgrades. However, a new report says the engine of its AMG variant is also something to definitely look out for.
According to UK’s Autocar, the range-topping Mercedes-AMG E63 will be more powerful than the Mercedes-AMG GT S, Mercedes-AMG C63 S and their equivalent models. The source claimed it will house the next level 4.0-liter V8 power unit of the brand’s performance division, which will raise its output to 600 bhp.
Based on the earlier interview of Christian Enderle, the Head of Powertrain Development in Mercedes-AMG, their current 4.0-liter biturbo V8 is designed to only deliver up to 503 hp. That is one of the reasons why AMG decided to retain the 6.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8 engine of the new Mercedes-AMG GT3 in racing. With that, there is a strong possibility that they already developed a successor of the power unit.
The report said the 2017 Mercedes-AMG E63 will have a lighter armor as well compared to its outgoing predecessor. Then all its power will be distributed through the new nine-speed automatic transmission of its brand.
Wrapping it all up, the AMG E63 is a high-tech car with powerful engines and lighter frame. Thus, expect it to dwarf even the flagship S-Class car of its maker or even the likes of the Audi RS6 and the BMW M6 in horsepower. While we don’t have an idea yet of how fast it will go, it will surely surpass the current E63 AMG in its acceleration rate.
