If it was a diesel, I'd say it was the fuel pump pressurising the system ready to start the car up.
Maybe the CGi petrols do it too.

2016 slk 300
Hello, hope you can shed some info. I have a brand new 2016 SLK 300 and at 400 miles I heard sound coming from front when I unlock in the morning and open any door or trunk. The sound starts with a hissing sound and last approx 2 min. Sounds like the car is trying to boot something up. Dealership cant duplicate sound. My car has 1,000 miles and sound still comes on and off. Brought it back to dealer today hoping they can duplicate sound this time. Anybody have any idea or experience? Thanks all

In the old days I'd have said it was the power steering pump... But I expect theyre electric on the R172?
Thanks no not a diesel & yes i think electric power steering. BTW the hissing sound ends w a click like something got uploaded/booted
I would suggest that you help the dealer isolate where the noise is coming from:
Before you open the doors next time, pop the car hood up, and see if you can actually hear where the noise might becoming from.
You might even try to video record it as you walk around the car.
Also, let them know when this usually occurs, whether the car is cold or also if it's been running awhile.

Thanks and yes i have recorded the sound and made them listen to it. Next time i wl pop the hood open. Dealership was unable to fuplicate sound ystrdy. Happens in morning and on & off during day. Thanks again all?

Hello All - my problem hopefully is resolved. Dealer was able to duplicate the sound this morning and fixed Low temp coolant circuit has air pocket. Low temp intercooler hoses vibrating and coolant circulation pump growling. Perform low temp circuit fill and bleed.... YEHEY!!! Downtown Los Angeles Dealership is the best. Thank you all.
