My 2013 SLK55 AMG arrived two days ago. Put already about 80 miles on her.
Specs:
775 Iridium silver
801 Black premium leather
H73 Carbon fiber trim
P30 AMG handling package
133 Chrome hood fins
319 Lighting package
796 AMG 18” multi-spoke alloy wheel
889 keyless go
Traded my old SLK32 AMG. The R172 is light years better. The pictures one can find on the web just don’t do any justice. The car looks so much better in the flesh.
I also considered the SL63 and 65. During the test drive (only drove the 63), I was not very impressed with the turbocharged engine and the car looked a little too long for a two-seater (but that’s just me). Don’t get me wrong, the SL is one hell of a car, just not that much different from the SLK 55, not $80K different anyway.
When I went to pick up my car from the dealership, it was parked next to a 2013 SL63 AMG. Up until I came close, I couldn’t tell which one is my car. From the outside, the two cars look 90% the same except that the SL is about 15” longer.
I used to drool over the SL 55, but couldn’t afford one. Now I can afford one, but MB has dramatically reduced the gap between the SL and SLK brands. Oh wellJ That being said, the SLK 55 is one hell of a bargain, you get a lot of car for the money. The engine sound is just to die for … each time I start the car, that magnificent VROOOM of the NA V8 makes my spine tingle, cannot think a better way to start my dayJ and when I stop and the engine is still warm, I rev it up to 3K rpms (because I’m breaking her in and am careful with the pedal) and ohhhh what a sound, those sound bits on the web don’t do any justice, again you have to listen to her heartbeat!!!
I can write pages about this car, which is so good. It should definitely be driven as a daily driver and not only during the weekends as it can make one’s day so much better and exciting. And, I don’t need to tell you how much of an eye-getter and chick magnet she is … (which the 32 wasn’t really). I get comments from girls I don’t even know, my friends are totally drooling over it. I’m told it looks aggressive and classy and masculine in the same time. The stereo is absolutely top notch, the amp is very powerful, Sirius dance channels on the surround system make the cabin sound like a dance club. I can’t really find anything wrong about this car, I’m sure I will at some point after trying hard ...
AMG have outdone themselves with this SLK and they deserve CUDOS. My expectations have been exceeded. In fact, I’ll save my dry powder for when the SLS successor comes up and buy that one as a second toy assuming they keep up the excellent work (which I don’t doubt they will). Mercedes and AMG PLEEEEEASE keep this recipe going for years with powerful, naturally aspirated engines, masculine, classy designs, and loaded interiors and you have got my wallet!!!
