Hi everyone,

I am looking at buying a 2009 SLK 55 AMG with 80,000 k's on it that presents in as new condition.
All services done by a Merc dealer in Melbourne.
What are the common issues with these cars that I should look out for?
Is there a big drop in value once they go over 100,000 k's"

Thanks in advance for the help.

Follow exactly to update: ‘Usercp’ at the top of page, then ‘edit your details’ on the left side, ‘additional information’ near the bottom, edit your ‘location’ and ‘vehicle’. Info in your garage does not update your profile.

Hi and welcome to SLKWorld.com from the UK Midlands - Thanks for joining us! :)

As Jeff has already said, not a lot of issues with the 55. Make sure you're aware whether there' sandy maintenance due, such as brakes discs/rotors, as they can be expensive (especially if it have the performance pack with 6-pot calliper a at the front.

First please update your profile with your location and vehicle (put something like "Looking for R171 SLK 55 AMG" for now), if you haven’t already done so, as it helps the members answer your questions which usually are based on that information.
Follow this to update: ‘User CP’ at the top of page, then ‘edit your details’ on the left side, ‘additional information’ near the bottom, edit your ‘location’ and ‘vehicle’ (and then click ‘SAVE CHANGES’ button at the bottom of the page). Info in your garage does not update your profile.

Thank you

Welcome from Wirral, England.

Whilst on the test drive the valve seal actually went on the car.
There's a wear and tear limit on them according to the MB mechanic who came to sort it.
Already new of the issue from here.

I saw it as a win cos it put the salesman on the back foot & I know they are brand new now.

The biggest thing is service history and no crash damage, not been stolen ( last two may affect your insurance quote).
Try and find out if it has any extras and exactly what they are.

Mine has but neither dealer nor insurance can tell me what.
So now I'm waiting until I get the owner details and service done.

Welcome from the Sacramento Valley SLK Enthusiasts!

Get the service history. At 80k there is a big service B that needs to be done, make sure it's done before buying.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I had the dreaded valve gasket (seepage) up to a few days ago.
I got some great info on how to do it yourself on the forum and now the job is done.
Its a very easy and straightforward job, took me one hour.

Check the heat seats if it is warming on the legs and back.. It's an issue with these cars.
You will like the car very much.
