...and I'd have to say, even as unlucky as I seem to be with this car...it's so much fun it's totally worth it!

The sound, the blisteringly fast acceleration, the ability to be docile enough for a daily driver...it's all great!

I will have to say, amusingly, I get the most positive comments on it from kids in my area! (My daily commute actually includes driving past an Elementary and Junior High school zone while they're letting out for the day) Mostly 'nice car' and all that jazz. From the adults (I say this because I'm personally somewhere in between 'kid' and 'adult' methinks at 26 years old and can sometimes look a touch younger) though I mostly get "How much did that cost you?" Is that normal, do other people harass you other AMG owners about the price?

Anyway, my bad luck with the car so far:

The day prior to a FL SLK Meet up, while leaving a late work night and off to get the car a quick detailing...got effectively rear-ended by an SUV not paying attention to the small car going ~3 MPH. Still went to the meet even with the (cosmetic) damage. Bumper, rear driver-side panel and driver-side tail-light all replaced by her insurance.

While at the SLK Meet, my SRS light went off. Ended up being the wiring harness...cost was about $500 between parts and labor. Also got my Service C done at the same time.

This past week, someone was going down a parking lot the wrong way (one of those where there are arrows indicating the direction of traffic since they were angled parking spots). I had to swerve to not get hit and my rear drivers-side wheel and tire bit a curb. Minor scuff on the wheel that got buffed out, however the tire took sidewall damage (didn't notice at the time since it didn't blow out). A Michelin Pilot Super Sport (N2 filled) with < 3000 miles on it. Of course, no one in Orlando had a replacement when I found out the next morning I had a flat because it was leaking slightly. I didn't want to use the spare on a rear-wheel so I performed a rudimentary patch job with gorilla glue until I could get a new one shipped to me. I also had to drive like a soccer mom (no disrespect, you have kids in the van!).

My car is completely back to normal now. And man, does it feel nice to be able to drive aggressively again. I find it amusing that I encounter all of my problems with other drivers when going less than 10 MPH. I think I need to drive quickly all the time from now on.

Anyway, just saying...this is the best car I've ever had. It definitely gets my stamp of approval!

Nice to see another owner in Orlando. Sorry about your luck but glad to see you got everything worked out. I'm curious to find out how you like the Michelins because I'm looking at replacing tires in the near future and I don't think I'll be going with more of the Pirellis. I look forward to meeting everyone at the corn maze as well!

Well, it's hard for me to give a good frame of reference to anything else as they're the only tires I've had on it so far. I can't appropriately comment on them as I don't know what the tire limits are vs. the car limits!

Without comparing to anything else, between the tires and car everything feels completely planted and I've always got ridiculous amounts of grip!

I can speak for the Michelins on the 55....I've had the PS2's and they are fantastic. I have just over 10k and they still look new and drive like they are new. In cold weather (not applicable for SoCal) I've heard the performance falls off a bit.

I've had the Conti DWS on another car and they are great....but you do lose handling as the sidewalls are not as strong so they give considerably more. I do have the Conti DW on my MINI and they are great.

I had the Pirelli Pzero and Neros on the 55 and absolutely hated them! Not only were they done in10k miles, they were extremely loud.

I think if it were me, I would do the PS2's again or I would try the Michelin Super Sports.

Thanks for the info guys. I've had my eyes on the Super Sports after reading a lot of positive reviews about them. The Conti DWS seem pretty well liked too. I don't do auto x or track days so maximum cornering grip isn't so important to me. I'm more concerned with decent grip when I mash the gas down and something that has less road noise than the P zeros. Good tread life would be a nice bonus but with this kind of torque it's more of a pipe dream haha.
