Hi, new to this. I've been looking at older SL 500 and 550s when this came up. It's at a dealer (Honda) and they're asking $15,282. 70,853 miles, 4 owners. Does that seem like a lot? It does to me. I want to go take a look but is it worth it or is that just too good to be true?

I'd have it looked at by a Mercedes mechanic before buying, of course. Sweet looking car, though.

I'm curious if an AMG with 71k miles still has a relatively long life without a major and costly (is that redundant?) breakdown. Also, 4 owners, is that a red flag?

Is taking it to an MB dealer for a pre-purchase inspection enough as far as finding potential issues? Yes, I'm aware that stuff can happen at any time, I'm more interested in patterns and what to expect.

Is $15,282 also a red flag? Seems low compared to other AMGs I've seen from around the same year. Not terribly low, ah heck, maybe I am paranoid, lol.

I don't plan on making this a daily drive, mainly something the wife and I can use on a drive along the coast on a beautiful day. But I also want a headturner, and this one definitely fits that.

And, of course, I don't know what I don't know. Basically I'm asking if this purchase will last me another 100k miles or more, and what I should expect to fix in that time.

Thanks a bunch!

The 55 r171 amg 55 is bulletproof. Mine just made it to 112k and it is an 09
driver's side valve cover gaskets like to seep. I have had mine done 3 times

of course take it in. might sure they look at the main rear seal. i have had mine done twice in 11 years
they have to remove the rear cover to observe that

paranoid. mileage is what cause the price to go down
get a carfax and check for any accidents or services

Ha! True dat!

The reason I'm being apprehensive is I have a friend who works for MB in Stuttgart and he said to avoid AMGs with high mileage, but go for an SL 500 or 550...

But...but...I want a more bitchen (that's Californian for "awesome cool" which is California for "really nice").

So, that led me to here.
