Hi everyone . . . new to the MB forum . . .however, not really new to MB product. I have had a 2004 Chrysler Crossfire since new . . . it of course is based on the older R170 platform.

I find myself looking at a 2006 SLK 55 AMG with approx. 35k miles on it (57k km's). Is there anything to watch for on these models ??? Anything I might be able to negotiate with the seller on ?? Your comments would be appreciated . . .

Car is sliver, with black interior. Originally from Vancouver, BC, Canada.
VIN = WDBWK73FX6F123564

Thanks in Advance . . . .

Cheers

Not gate A12 in Calgary per chance?

Welcome from Ottawa. I'd be big on its service history and the condition of the tires for a start (as well as the rims). Since it's a 55 (and I haven't looked at the build sheet) I assume it is fitted out well - COMAND, airscarf?

The 2006 AMGs also came with expensive brakes, correct? See how much life is left on the pads/rotors? I think it's due for transmission service soon, if it hasn't been done already. Also when I purchased my 2005, I discovered that the A/C wasn't blowing out cold air (condenser needed to be replaced). PPI is definitely a good idea to see what you may not notice at first.

Greetings from Tennessee !

Service is key unless you are an accomplished DIY guy. Someone with a MB Service system can get you all of the codes stored in the car and tell you what they mean. Dealership labor is the expensive part of these cars ( you will have 16 spark plugs :) ).

But they are an absolute joy to drive.

Welcome to the Forum.

Thanks for all the kind comments !! Yes, I do have a good shop that will be doing an inspection on the car . . . not a MB dealership though. I guess I could check with MB dealer and see if they provide the service history on a used MB ??? . . . I will be doing all my own service work on the car, changing oil & filter, etc . . . Have always been car guy, and restored my 1970 Sport Satellite in my garage, two years of taking every nut, bolt and screw off, cleaning, painting etc, and then rebuilding . . . not too scared of the SLK55 AMG, pretty much my Crossfire (old R170 platform) updated !! EVERYTHING on Crossfire, except for the body, is MB (SLK320). . . .

Cheers

Finally . . . own SLK55 AMG

So, I thought it would be easy to find a 55 AMG that lives up to my standards . . . well, at least some of the cars did, but not the dealers/sellers . . . after looking since last July, I have FINALLY made a deal on a car, paid for it, and am just waiting to pick it up !!! . . . . it is a 2006, silver with red/black interior, with 79k km on it. It is in Vancouver, I have test drove it, had it checked and paid for it. While I am in Calgary (approximately 900km away, through the Canadian Rocky Mountains), I am waiting for service work to be performed and then I have business to be in Vancouver for in two weeks . . . I will fly in and then DRIVE the car home !!! What a glorious way to drive through the Rocky Mountains !!! . . . Can't wait !! . . . Thanks for the help with the data cards along the way !!! . .

Hope to post more when I get the car !!!
