I have to share this experience with my fellow SLK55 owners R).

2005 SLK55 AMG (STOCK) Vs Lexus IS-F (STOCK) (08, 09, 10?)

An hour ago, I pulled up to a light to see a black Lexus IS-F with tinted windows pulled up passed the white lines on a red light. After seeing all the reviews of how quick the IS-F is in a straight line, I have to admit I was nervous at first.
The light turned green, I took off normally in S Mode and drove the speed limit until the next light.

1st Race:
Second light, we lined up, it turned green, both took off slowly, then he gunned it around 20 mph, I dropped it back into 1st and gunned it, then shifted through up to 70 mph. I got him by a half car and maintained it.

2nd Race: IT WAS ON. He rolled down his window, so I clearly saw that he didn't have any passengers (neither did I). It turned green, we both gunned it from a dead stop, i pulled up a half a car length until 3rd gear, then on 4th gear it became a car length, we kept going until around a 100mph. I was ahead one car length. We slowed down, he gave me thumbs up and smiled, I rolled down the window and said "nice race man". He then put his signal on and turned right.
I busted out laughing so hard, I was so happy. My car is an 05 SLK55 AMG, completely stock, rear tires 255/30R18 Bridgestone Potenza RE760 have about 50% thread. I've had it for years, regular oil changes and maintenance.

I thought this IS-F with 416hp was going to kill me. But I guess the IS-F's 3780lb weight compared to the SLK55's 3400lb weight and similar torque figures make a difference. Bottom line, I killed it. It made me so proud of my car, after all these years. I STILL LOVE THIS CAR.

Good to hear that you won, I was checking out an ISF two days ago the interior is not bad I hated the centre arm rest and shifter gate it looks cheap, its priced similar to a CSTV here; rather have a CTS-V.

Weight makes a difference. Some times people forget that and when they go for mods, they tend to add more heavier parts to it. Sometimes you just have to eat less, lose some weight, clean out your trunk (boot), not all mods has to be expensive. Good kill. I'm sure the IS-F owner is on right now reading this and doing some research on the SLK55. :)

Nice match up and win! Besides having lighter weight, I bet your SLK55 has less wind resistance (less frontal area, more aerodynamic) than the IS-F, so pulling away more in 4th gear makes sense too.

And not that Car and Driver is the perfect source, and the tests were done at different times, but they have the SLK55 at 4.3 seconds 0 to 60 mph, and the IS-F at 4.4 seconds 0 to 60 mph. Sounds about right for a half car length lead at 60 mph.

NEW KILL TO REPORT: AUDI RS4 w/After Market exhaust

For some reason I wasn't getting notification on replies to my post on this thread. Sorry for being so late to check it on here directly.

After that kill to the IS-F with my totally stock SLK55, I look at IS-F's in a different way now. We are trained to look at HP figures while ignoring weight and torque.

Here is the new story:
Two weeks ago, I raced a B7 Audi RS4 6-speed aftermarket exhaust Vs my SLK55 stock . What a sweet ride ( I have a B6 S4 V8, so I love those cars). It started out with the guy driving past me and revving his engine on purpose (his exhaust sounded madly sick, like an F430 or something, it scared me lol).
I followed him to the light and stopped behind him (no room to line up next him). There was an unmarked Crown Vic on the light right next to him, it looked like a cop.
When the light turned green, he gunned it, I hesitated for a sec because I didn't think that he was that dumb, but I couldn't resist, so I followed a a second later. I caught up to him pretty quick, but i gained on him slowly thereafter. I kept gaining on him up to maybe 80mph, then my front bumper reached his front fender by the time we hit 115mph, then he slowed down, so I didn't get to fully pass him. He gave me thumbs up :tu:, I did the same.
The next light, lined up with a car between us, I gunned it, but he didn't race... Going onto the on ramp to the Freeway, he gunned it over the bump before the on-ramp, I slowed down to 5mph because my car is much lower, didn't want to scrape my bumper, so he ended up in front of me.... He started tailgating this 3-series BMW on the ramp, so I chased after him as we merge onto the freeway. He passed the beemer and gunned it, i did the same, I gained behind him quickly, I had to hit my brakes so my SLK wont eat his RS4 hahaha... Then he cut like 2 cars off at once, so I followed him (his car was shooting black smoke between gears) then changed lanes and fast-walked him. It was sick....

I really want to see what the SLK55 would do against an e92 M3. I saw a video on YouTube with the SLK55 beating the e92 M3 on takeoff. But I want to do try it myself lol to see how it really goes...

Is the E92 the current model with DCT? If so, would be an interesting run - that thing shifts wicked fast.

The e92 is the current model, a DCT has a better chance to launch correctly than a manual. That would be very interesting. I see many e92 m3's running around in southern California... It will happen one day... I just hope that my rear tires are good when the day comes :burnout:

There's a guy at my wife's work with the new M3. First words out of his mouth when wifey drove the '55 to work.. "my M3 can kill it". Really.. ah.. 'cool' dude.

I looked on youtube and there are a few match ups with the M3s. Some win, some loose. Looks to be pretty close. If I ever get next to him, we're going from a dead stand still... the '55 has more torque and should launch a lot stronger. Plus there's that little thing called 'experience'. I've been doing this for more years than I'd like to remember.

slk55 05 on the dragstrip

i brought mine sometime early this month on da dragstrip for time trials for da very 1st time... 1st run: on idle launch 13.262sec, reaction time=0.491sec, 105.42mph.
2nd run: idle launch=13.282sec, reaction time=0.997sec, 104.94mph
i havent been on da track for over 10yrs, that's snoozin under da tree (0.49-.99sec reaction) but happy with da result, jus gotta work on da reaction time... so clearly da car runs mid 12s...:burnout: im definitely going back... during tech inspection, i asked if helmet required they said optional, after my 1st run i was flagged to b reminded i will hav to use my helmet! some of da crowd was kinda sarcastic at first, but after they saw da 1st run seems like it took them by surprise. i hav it on video, onboard cam using gopro, i watch it quite often... i'll share it here when i post it in youtube!
any pointers on dragracing this beast???
