I have a small chunk missing out of my grille and think replacement is probably easier than repair. When looking to order a new part, I see two part #s keep cropping up: 1708800485 and 1708800685. There's a large price difference between the two but I'm not getting much joy from a couple of the parts people on what the difference actually is. Anyone order these and happen to know?

Yes, you kindly provided me a data card for my VIN WDBKK66F54F303679 but I did not see mention of the grille.

However, from your links I found my way over to here and it looks like the code would be 1708800485

https://partsouq.com/en/catalog/genuine/parts?c=Mercedes-Benz&ssd=%24%2AKwEzBxYhZ0VUfF5hd29pE2t_X1hGNzg1NCYgL2lAfCR3Ij0nDxIISksxMEc1M0NrZnk3Nz4kLSJqZnpsaDA3NzI3NiUpeiUpIzolJC0iam56bGhHIiskYm4lP3pgclYiKyR3YyU_emdofAAAAAB6aIcI%24&vid=0&gid=10841&q=WDBKK66F54F303679

For examples of the price difference I was referring to, this is the 1708800685 ... $270
https://parts.mbfm.com/p/Mercedes-Benz_2004_/Grille-Upper--Lower/48195139/1708800685.html

and this the 1708800485 ... $157
https://parts.mbfm.com/p/Mercedes-Benz_2004_/Grille-Upper--Lower/48195139/1708800485.html

There is usage of terms w/sport and w/o sport, which may mean the with or without the star, but could not get confirmation, and the price difference is too large for that. Same price difference on other sites too.

I will no doubt get hammered if I am wrong but my belief is they are all the same for the R170. I haven't seen one that does not emulate the so called Cheese Grator style.
Be careful removing the Star out of the old one no matter which way you go.
I recently found a hole in mine which I suspect was a yahoo backing into it. It penetrated just below the hood lip driver side of the star. No sheet metal or paint damage but the grill came out in 6 major pieces and a hand full of bits from broken bracketss.
I decided to do something different and bought a more CLK style. I like it. It was $189 plus shipping.

Not for the purists but this little set up brings my "old skool" Roadster into the 21'st century IMHO

Although they are pretty good, I will be adding Xenons to those lamps at some point >:D

My picture did not apparently load but it is similar to what Dave has on his car.

The quality is excellent, fitment excellent as well and it is a 10 minute fiddle to change. Also, removing the two bumper cover bolts that are under the hood allows you a bit more flexibility to slide the old one out and the new one in under the bumper cover.

Hi,

Thanks :)

Yes I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the R170 aftermarket grille .............................

My W220 one was a lot of fiddly fettling required to make it a nice "MB worthy" fit

Cheers Dave
