Hello,

Our 2001 SLK320, 92Kmiles, has developed a loud tap in the forward section of the driver's side head just behind the oil filler tube. It's particularly loud at idle smoothing out and quieting down during acceleration. Seems to disappear at about 1800-2000rpm otherwise engine runs smoothly. I'm old school and know that in the past it was usually a sticky lifter or rocker arm needing adjustment but am new to MB. Sounds very ominous.

Just changed the oil using exactly 8.0L Mobil1 0-40 and PurolaterOne Filter and swapped out the filler tube o-rings.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Never had the issue you are speaking of in our Mercedes, but had a Mercury Sable with a sticky lifter and Marvel Mystery Oil did the trick on that. Maybe someone else can indicate if it should be used in your Mercedes.
