I have tried to use the search feature to find what I need, but perhaps I'm not using the right terminology. Anyway, I need to know where I can purchase a service manual for my 2001 SLK 230.

The door on the ashtray is broken on my car. I did a search for info and found someone who has a link to a parts list. It appears that a new ash tray assy. for a 98 or 99 is listed at $137. However the same part for an 01 to 03 is listed for $845? Is that right? What is the difference between the years to make it cost so much more?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Ashtray assy.

I did a quick search and came up with this for $9.38. Not sure if that is what you were looking for.

The link came from this thread.

Yeah that's the ashtray insert. What I need apparently is the entire ashtray assy. It would be great if I could just get a replacement ashtray, including door, instead of the entire dash unit. The door is broken off of mine, and so far I have seen no other option for fixing it other than replacing the dash unit. I just don't understand why the assy. for an 01 to 03 is so much more expensive than a 98 or 99. They look the same to me.

I think we need to clarify things a little bit. There's an owners/operators manual which can be downloaded from the MB website for free. There's also parts list that Raybonj posted (Great thanks to him)! And there's a Star Service Manual. The current price is $120 from Mercedes. I'll look up the link and the part number later, since I'm on the phone right now. Sokoloff have posted it insome other thread.

Jeff, do you think it's a good idea to create a thread with all the links to these manuals and descriptions, so people can find it easily? (-: Just saying :)

Well, I've looked at your datacard and the vehicle in the EPC. I'm trying to see if the UK owners manual is different but I don't know anything about cars across the pond. So I'm going to take a stab at it and give you the us version of the manual which is here-but it may not be correct. Don't you folks have the drivers wheel on the other side? ;)
