I'm looking to buy a 1999 to 2002 SLK I would rather have the 6 cylinder. But I found a couple of low mileage SLK 230's I really don't think I need the increased power of the 6 I drive a Chrysler 300 with a 3.5 six cylinder and am happy with it.
Is there any other differences I should be aware of?
I see the 2000 has the mirror side view mirrors. I didn't see them on the 1999.
Does the 2000 SLK 230 have side airbags?

The Hp is 197 vs 215, 0 to 100 km 7.2 vs 6.9, MPG 21/31 vs 18/27 yes the 2000 has air bags in the doors. The 230 has a supercharger and 320 does not unless it is 32AMG

I guess the 6 is the more desirable of the 2. But if the difference in price is $2000+. I guess I can live with the 4 cylinder.
Any maintenance issues inherent to the 4 cylinder (superchargers wearing out etc). I realize that the boost can cause catastrophic failure if everything else isn't working right. Lean condition etc.

My first SLK was a 2001 230. Had it two years before getting a 07 350. The 2001 230 had 105k on it when I traded and had no problems. They are ever day cars for me and put around 12k per year. No garage queen for me. You see many for sale with much more miles. The question is how well has it been maintained and how well do you maintain it. Just came from the dealer who did the service on my 07 at 86k and the tech found everything good and made a comment about how well I maintain my car.

Just check Carfax on the 2001 and a year ago was last report at 157k and no mention of any problems other than normal services.

Sorry. The only place a member found years less than 2000 was on ebay.

Went down with my trailer and picked up our new car today, 2001 SLK230 Red 36,000 miles. Came with the manual and a wind screen but only one key. Top has some issues they changed the O-Rings on the 2 cylinders in the trunk. But the one on the top started leaking. I ordered the O-Ring kit and a liter of fluid from Ebay.
I guess it is going to stay in my trailer till I get the parts for the fix. Unless I can lock the top manually.
Get the insurance on Monday then get it registered. Be on the street soon

It's sort of a 60th birthday present for my wife. I just hope we don't share it like our swimming pool. She swims in it while I maintain it. And she says we are even. LOL

You say you got the owners manual with the car. Check page 230 on locking and unlocking the top at the front. Starting on page 226 is full instruction on manually operating the top.

You can get a second key from the dealer. Only dealers can supply the keys as they are coded to match your car. Expect to pay around $200.
