So the saga is almost over for my search and purchase of an '07 SLK55.

I went to the dealer Monday for a close visual inspection as well as a test drive prior to final inspection of what I wanted installed/removed before delivery on 6/30. I am a bit miffed that they haven't done anything to the car even though it's been there for 10 days or so. I would have liked to try the bluetooth or see the 6 disc removed.

The car is in excellent shape. This is a car shipped from Southern Cal to NorCal and had 58 miles on it and a full gas tank before I got behind the wheel. I ended up putting 11 miles on it in mixed city/hwy driving.

I do have to say it's not perfect. Thanks to the sharp folks on SLKw I knew what to look for and I did notice that somebody has already scratched the backside of the hood with the right windshield wiper. As of late Monday it was already on the way to the body shop for a quick touch up.

The salesperson pressed me to have him go with me to drive the car but I declined. I wanted to fly solo and fiddle with things. It turns out that the right seat has a rattle at the top of the seat near the airscarf part. After discussing this with Jesse, it's possible it's the seatbelt hitting something. There was also the idea that the seat needed to be pushed a little forward, but I had already tried that and it didn't go away. At first I thought it was a roof pivot point, but grabbing the top of the seat made the rattle reduce. Jesse may be right about the belt latch on the side of the door or seat...

The fit and finish of all the body panels look great. I also opened and closed the top to review those close/open points and they looked good.

After *trying* to open and close the top I now realize how important that roof mod kit is. I didn't know how to raise the roof at first, and after moving the plastic trunk cover thing, I pressed the door unlock button briefly and watched the top start to open. The next thing I know it's beeping like crazy and now I'm mad because something is clearly stuck or binding- at least that's what I thought. How stupid is it that you have to *hold* the lock or unlock button the whole time to activate the roof! Ok I get it and will be ordering one of those little boxes as soon as I own the car.

I mentioned in an earlier post my concern about controlling the iPod, so feel free to go read that and reply there. I'm just glad it works!
All the chit chat aside, the car's really awesome and the little hiccups are no big deal. Love the car and can't wait to go back Thursday and try out the bluetooth and make sure the NAV has been updated. They haven't removed the 6 disc changer yet, so that will be need to be done. I found the activation card for the Sirius in the middle map box so that will be activated when I go back Thursday.

The car seems to have a lot of "pep" and did merge onto the highway fairly easily... even keeping it under 4000rpm and 60mph... (grin)

Yes I did take some snaps with my cell phone, I have to download them and then upload then somewhere I guess.

Hasta for now

Sounds like a good start. Just stay in the dealers face every day till it's as you want.

Yes, the SmartTop mod is a must.

The dealer should take care of the nav and Sirius activation at delivery.

Good luck!!

Good luck on your purchase~~!
I also have enough problems dealing with my dealership service center.
So next time I will be going to the one on pleasanton for service and hopefully they do better work there.
Oh just a reminder, DO NOT let them ever ever wash your car. I would rather wash it by myself or detail it somewhere outside but never let MB wash your car. They use brush and they have already scratched everywhere of my car, and it's easy to notice since mine is black.

Yes, i'm trying really hard to stay on top of things with them. Since they haven't started on the BT or 6 disc pull it's clear i'm going to have to ride them all the way to the end... i think i better get it all done before i sign anything.

10 days wasted and now they have 1 day to get it ready for me before tomorrow. dingbats.

Thanks for the encouragement!

oh, i told the wife i was really looking forward to "dinner & a movie" Saturday and she wanted to know if i was up to something.... I told her if she really wanted to know (yes)- the surprise was going to an IMAX theater for the movie! lol!

I have a small sign printed and stored in the glove box to use when I take the car in for service, it says: "NO CAR WASH". I put this sign on the dashboard when I bring it for service and this alerts the technician not to send it for a car wash after the needed service is done.

This weekend will be a good time to claybar and Zaino.

Congratulations Doug.

What's inside your .....

Congratulations Doug.
glovebox? Inside mine is a little welding hammer that is basically a flat face on one end and a sharp punch on the other end. I got it for $4 at a used tool store. It is reserved for the fool who opens his car door into my door and is stupid enough to not leave the area immediately. I know that sooner or later I will return to my car to find a door ding. If the car next to me is responsible it will look like Swiss cheese when I am done. I'll leave the hammer sticking out of the hood so the fool knows what happened!

Seriously though, congratulations on your car. You WILL love it!!

Watch the bastards at the dealer to avoid having them put high-speed miles on it before you take ownership!! My dealer, Napleton's in Loves Park, Illinois let their salesman drive my car and they put 50 miles on it before I got it. My salesman was red faced and basically lied to me about the mileage but I figured it out a few weeks later when the service rep gave me some paperwork that showed 4 miles on it when he serviced it for delivery. iIwill never buy a vehicle from them again!

Rate your dealer: http://www.dealerrater.com

Do all the rest of us a favor and check out the dealer rater site.

Other than that.... have fun and drive safely!!

Yea, I made a note of the odo reading and will have some words for them if they are a lot more than what it takes to get to and from their off-site body shop. It already has a full tank so there is no reason for them to drive it.

Well... they may have driven it to find the right seat rattle but I will review it with them.

They called and said they are getting it ready for my second inspection tomorrow.
