Hi. I’m new here. Considering getting a 2001 SLK320 with 120k miles. Wanted to see what the forums feedback is. I’m considering getting the mechanics working in good order and using it as a daily driver. Good idea or bad idea? I’ll be looking at the car this weekend and if I like it I will get an inspection done at. MB dealership before buying? What should I anticipate my yearly maintenance costs to be? Thanks for the feedback

jb edit: changed 2001 SLK350 to 320

Ok, let me try this again. I'm currently looking at purchasing a 2004 SLK320 special edition. It's listed with 78,000 miles for $5500USD. Seller is the 2nd owner. Pictures looked good. I don't have much info other than that.

My main concern is how much money I'll be be spending yearly to maintain the car. I've heard both sides of the spectrum. Some say that Mercedes really aren't that much more to maintain and that they are very reliable cars, then I also hear don't do it, they're a money pit and you'll spend so much each year on maintenance. Not sure what to do. I really want the car, but my dad says not to do it. It's a California car, so I don't think rust will be a problem. I just picture myself cruising around with the top down this summer.

Let me know what you guys think. I'll definitely be reading up more and might get a chance to test drive this specific car this weekend.

Hi mate. I have a 2001 SLK320 and the car is fantastic every time I drive it I love it! If you do your homework and get one that has reasonable mileage along with good history your be fine. The 320 is absolutely bulletproof along with the 230. As for maintaining them, I’ll agree being that it takes 12 spark plugs and 8ltrs of oil, when it comes up for a service your looking at about 3/4 pounds. As for the fuel, that all depends on how heavy your right foot is. I have managed to get about 28/30mpg. But the main thing is, just the pure fun and thrill of owning it and the feeling you get every time you drive and get in it. You won’t even care or think about what the cost is of maintaining it. And if you do get occasional minor issue you have this forum for help and advice and your enjoy working on it. I say go for it and enjoy it. “We all are here for a good time, not a long time “ remember that
