Hi everyone.

This is only my second post so please excuse the roughness of it. I have no experience posting.

I have a 1998 Sunburst yellow SLK bought from new. The car has been kept up very nicely. Only had two big problems with it, the roof actuators died and the paint in the center console and lower dash peeled like a banana. Not knowing about this site, I changed all the roof actuator bottles and the pump, and replaced most of the dash and center console. I probably could have saved a lot of money by painting the dash and fixing the actuators but couldn't find the parts nor instructions as shown in this site. Besides that, it has been an awesome car.

About two years ago the car started giving me problems with acceleration. If I pressed the pedal to fast, it would misfire. Since I have other cars, I just parked it and there it stayed for two years. I would start the car, lower the windows and roof, turned on the AC and drive it back and forth about once a month. Now, running out of gas, (two year old gas mind you), I decided on driving to the gas station to fill it up. The car would hesitate, misfire and barely drive. A friend used his computer and found out codes P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304 and P0170. I changed the spark plugs which were very oily. Changed the fuel filter (By the direction of the flow, it seems to go downstream from the pump but I installed it as the original one was), changed the oil & filter (Only 500 miles on it but more than 2 years old) and filled it up with part 100 and part 93 octane. Still misfiring. I read in this site that the MAF could be the problem. Cleaned the MAF twice with CRC MAF cleaner. It ran much better but still misfired. I decided on installing a new Bosch MAF, now it works wonderfully. As a precaution, I changed the coils after replacing the MAF. I am planning on changing the injectors and the ignition cable as a precaution since the car already has 100k miles on it. I wanted to write about my experience just in case it helps someone sales some $$$. This site really helped me diagnose my car. I will now use it more often since it is way sexier that my Honda Pilot.
