My otherwise immaculate looking 170 has the well known rust on the wheel arches and probably the potential to rust further even if I have the arches repaired. Are the 171's also rust prone please ?

I have had this 34000 miler assessed by Mercedes but the arrogant fools do not acknowledge that they made cars in 2004 not of merchantable quality..They refuse to help weith repairs.. Should I have bought a Toyota or something ? Any advice folks

The MB dealership isn't really a body shop. This is just a regular repair on an "old" car in their eyes. Why haven't you just gotten body shop estimates for the repairs? No need to run out and buy something of lesser quality.

Having owned multiple British cars over the years, rust was always an issue with them also. As far as the SLK is concerned wheel arches are a prime place, also corners of bonnet near A pillar and boot near C pillar. Some get rust near rear number plate. None of these repairs are terribly expensive if taken care of early.
