The Ulster Grand Prix reclaims the title as the world's fastest road race as Peter Hickman sets an average speed of 136.415mph on his way to winning the opening Superbike race at Dundrod.
Ride on board with Hickman on his record-breaking lap around the 7.4 mile County Antrim circuit.

I've ridden the IoM TT circuit many a time at speed (in the days when there were few limits).

I've seen vids of many fast laps there. All have impressed.

But Hickman's lap for the record in Ulster?
Even in my most JD fuelled haze I could not imagine doing that.

Top marks, sir!

Road racers...

These people have brains wired up just a little differently to the rest of us. Unbelievable to watch.
And if it goes wrong, what awaits him at the edge of the circuit? Telegraph poles, trees, marker posts, hedges...

Respect.

Even circuit racing has it's dangers.

In a 125 race in the 90's at Oulton park, a relative of Mick Lofthouse (brother I think)
got elbowed and came down in spectacular style at Druids, Oulton Park.
He was fine.
But my mate and fellow marshal still fears the number 36 after the bike kept tumbling towards him.
He got lucky.
The bike hit the Armco and fell backwards.
I was face down on the deck.
My mate frozen, staring at what had just happened.

Had the rider not thrown himself clear, it would have been very nasty for him.

Couldn't make it this year :crying:, but it is a great track with good access to the pits and the riders.

I used to race motorcycles for a while too, I have a cracked knee cap to show for it and a few trophies :D You definitely need to be an adrenaline junky! It was a lot of fun though and good people all around you.
