12 June 2016: GWSR Classic and Sports Cars Meet

A member of one of the R171 Facebook groups (Donna Ludlow) is organising an event in Gloucestershire on Sunday 12 June 2016, at the GWS Railway:

I volunteer at the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway ( GWSR ) in Toddington and amongst other things, I am part of their Classic Vehicle Days organising team.

The GWSR holds a classic car show every year and it's quite popular - at the last show in September 2015 we had about 180 cars or more on display. However, 2016 will be different as 1) they are now holding two shows - one in June, and one in September, and 2) I have been able to persuade the other organisers to let sports cars younger than 1980 enter - which is great news. This thread is focussing on the June 12th show and is mainly a ''clubs day' (although individuals are welcome to enter).

I'd really love to gather together a nice group of SLKs of any age for this show so we have a nice mix of classics and moderns all together. If you can't bring your SLK for whatever reason but have something else equally interesting and that can be deemed a sports car you are welcome to come along of course.

The show officially starts at 10am so if you could arrive before, that would be brilliant. The show finishes at 4pm and it would be helpful if you could stay in place til then.

There are a few places to eat if you get hungry throughout the day (Flag & Whistle Cafe, The Pheasant Inn, or the Spar shop!) and of course you can take a trip out on the steam/diesel trains if it takes your fancy. It's a nice scenic route from Toddington to Cheltenham. If you happen to bring another car that's from 1980 or older you will even get a free ticket for the train - might not apply to anyone on here but thought it's worth mentioning.

The show will be held on the field next to the railway with good signposts and there is access to the railway from the field via gates which go onto Platform 2. Platform 1 and the rest of the station is accessed via the footbridge (the main entrance will be closed to those exhibiting to keep the main car park free for those travelling on the trains).

It really is a great day out with lots of cars to see, and more! Naturally it's a good family day out - all I ask is that people are well behaved while at the show.
