I'm a 1000 miles into my slc amg so I thought I'd post my opinion .
Bad side first , it's not particularly good on fuel around town , not that I expected to be mind . Seating position is higher than I'd like it to be , and I'm only 5'10" . I was led to believe the auto boot separator was std equipment , it's not on mine . The parking sensors are a bit Mickey Mouse compared to bmws .
Good side now , it makes a great noise in sport plus , it's very quiet in other modes , the car is very comfortable on a decent , 3 hour , run and bizarrely economical on the motorway . It's genuinely fast , handles well and well finished off inside .
Plenty of people look at it if that's your sort of thing .
A mate drove it on Saturday and the first thing he did was start looking for one when he got home , and he's Porsche man through and through . His comment was " do I really need any more car than that , it does everything " .
I've no idea what the road testers were thinking when they reviewed the car at the start of the year and were disappointed with it , I suppose if you drive 6 figure cars all year you must lose touch with reality eventually .
Overall I'm very pleased with it , just as well , I'll be driving it for a long time !

Thanks for the review - the SLC 43 is a obvious upgrade path to the SLK 350 R)
Funny enough My MB garage offered to get a used SLC 43 in for Me to test drive, while mine was in for a service - I declined the temptation, for now....

Yepp, two SLC 43's for sale from the MB Sandown Group in My area:
Used Cars - Home: Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-Benz of Salisbury Sales: 01722 662589

If I had the time, would be worth a drive out to Salisbury to test a Tenorite Grey R172 55AMG @ £30k & a Polar White SLC 43 AMG @ £47K with ~600 miles on the clock back to back...!! >:D

Plus Guildford has a Black SLC 43 AMG for £49k, with a mere 156 miles..!!

I test drove the SLC 43 back to back with my SLK 55 recently and, to be honest, apart from the obvious difference in engine (noise, electronic throttle blip on downshift, different torque delivery etc) I felt them to be very similar in the driving experience.

The 55 AMG has the low down grunt and growl that comes with V8's whilst the 43 has the 'fast spinning' V6 shout - both launch you towards the horizon at licence loosing speeds >:D>:D

Likewise I am 1000miles in to life with my SLK 55 and, to date, it has never failed to put a smile on my face

Jealousy. Bear in mind that the run of the mill 'reporter' affluence might stretch to a five year old Golf GTi on his driveway. So when he gets into a Mercedes - a car that is just out of his reach, its all sour grapes and bad. Six figure cars will never be in his reach and so are put up on a pedestal regardless of hideousness.

Reminds me of one evening a few years back walking home, past Chelsea football stadium, behind two fans, both quite middle class, going to a match. A new SL drives by and one fan is all quiet fingers and swearwords telling his friend that is his boss who does no work and spends his money on fast cars and women. Nothing about how he is the one keeping the fan alive. A few steps later, John Terry sweeps into the carpark in his latest outrageous Bentley, whereupon the same fan is all hoots of delight telling his friend that Terry is the main man etc etc..!

Glad the 43 is to your liking. There are quite a few coming onto the German market that I was going to pop over and have a look at (I've gone off the idea of a 55 now) but I was driving home the other day, autumn sun was out, roof down, no cares in the world other than the pound heading for Hades, and I thought why bother? the 250 has everything I need - maybe just spend the money on a few good holidays!

I've not been impressed by MBs parking sensors in anything yet.
I like the SLC reversing camera though.

Do you have electric seats?
They tend to be able to get to a lower position.

Glad that you're enjoying the car.
They are genuinely more smiles to the gallon.

Yes , I have electric seats , they are ok but I still feel like I'm sitting on the car rather than in it if you know what I mean , the BMW seats just about sit on the floor .
The sensors are more the annoying screech and lights than anything else , a bit like a halfords aftermarket kit compared to bmws more restrained beep and graphic on the screen , that said the reverse camera is great .
The boot release is a let down too , it doesn't raise the boot lid like bmws .
it's only as I have direct comparison day to day I even notice these " problems " . I shouldn't complain at all , I've spent the last few years driving a pick up truck with Windows that actually wound down with a handle
I sold that before the car came as I'd finished my building project in France , and I'm pretty sure the journey to the Dordogne will be a lot nicer in the slc

Perhaps you have a taller torso. Are the seats adjusted their lowermost height?

Hi,Glad to hear your enjoying your SLC.I too have 1200 miler(3 months old)200 sport, manual, petrol.Just this week my car has been into Trimtechnik of Prenton,Wirral for the fabric seats to be re- trimmed in red/black leather with red double stitching and what a super job they did too.A very professional outfit with super tradesmen.Other than that I have red monogrammed mats,a "snooper" and I paid extra for the Garmin map pilot and a reversing camera.Unfortunately I have not attended the 3 year university course in order to operate that wizardry in the centre of the dashboard!Generally I'm happy with the car sad that I couldn't have flame red or any non metallic red and chose diamond silver metallic which to the rest of the planet is pale blue.Dare I raise the subject of the (non)sunroof?I have a glass roof as standard and a solid headlining.Someone in design needs to meet with customers also to discuss shiny fin on side of front wings-plastic cheese grater to bonnet scoops.Keep in touch.

Glad to hear a good report on the SLC, seems to be a lot of SLK/Cs in Wirral where I used to live.
I have the 250d Sport, three months in, 1600 miles at 48.7 mpg although that includes a lot of motorway driving. I find the seating height just fine, I am 6' and have the seat as low as possible. Reversing camera is good especially the way it tells you when the front wheels are in line, still don't quite trust it though! I wonder if the glass roof internal lining could be replaced with one that lets light in. Car handles beautifully and the folding roof is a joy, especially as now you can start dropping it while its stationary and drive forward while it completes the cycle. I paid extra for the The Garmin Map Pilot as well which is great having it built in but need updating already as twice it has shown me driving over fields when I know I am on a new road! Cant work out how to update it though think it may be a dealer job, it's lack of speed cameras is irritating as well. Cabin storage is rather limited but the boot is bigger than it looks. The 9 speed auto box is delightful and great fun in 'sport' mode and i have paddles to play with as well!
Cheers, David
