I have been to several body shops, and been told that the material that MB used to make the bumper out of, is nothing that any of the shops would want to attempt to fix. They say they can make it look great (want to fill the front license plate holder holes), but one bump, and the repair would be cracked and not be under warranty - all due to the material the bumper is made out of and not having correct material to plastic weld, etc . . .

Has anyone gotten their bumper fixed ?? Or found the correct material to fix the bumper with ???

Thanks,

Mark

I removed my front bumper yesterday when I installed new head lights.

It is torn on the lower side directly in front of the right wheel well, probably from ground contact the car had when still with the previous owner.

I have contacted several specialist repair shops and will let you know about their feedback. At the moment I'd expect tears in the bumper can repaired as long as they are not in areas critical to structural integrity.

Hi All
You can get this front bumper cover repaired . I had mine done early this year they use plastic weld & other tech , I had damage & cracks all over the bumper it looked a right mess before & looked like new after , Until I ran over the wheel on my wheelie bin D'oh , so now I have a 3" crack low down on the drivers side . Keep looking for a garage or paint shop that does this type of work .

Cheers

Got the same feedback as Andy - it's definitely fixable. Maybe look for a smart repair workshop that does dent removals, wheel refurbs, leather repairs etc. There could be a good chance they also do plastic repairs.

I had to replace the front bumper cover on my 2004 SLK 32 AMG last fall after hitting a small animal and cracked it pretty good. Where I am the roads are teaming with animals. Just glad it wasn't a deer or I would have been replacing the front end. The public highway folks and Insurance companies should do something about all the animals on the roads but they don't seem to care. If the state wasn't so greedy and just let people hunt freely the problem would be solved but they have to soak you every time you fire your gun. But I digress.
I also had to replace the bottom grille screen, front grill and the lower intercooler radiator. The whole job was over 2K doing it myself in my garage. I got the new bumper cover from MB local dealership at a discount, (about $700 plus exchange), That was the only source to get the original cover that fit. I had Macco Inc. paint it for 300$. It was a perfect match for same spec paint and number of coats that came from the factory., pricey body shops wanted over 1K just to paint it , NO THANKS for a bumper cover that sits so low to the ground and is hit by small pebbles, tar and bugs every time I drive it. I'm sure it wont be the last bumper cover on this car even though I cover it with a bra in the summer months, the bugs in early summer at dusk are unbelievable.

I split the bumper on my 07 55 and a body shop that specialized in high end cars was able to “weld” it togeather.

I had a couple of body shops look at mine and none could fix it. It was split at the corner of the lower grille opening in a couple of places and a small piece was missing in the corner. No one cold have fixed that for what a new costs.

I had two cracks (lets each say 3”) in the front bumper. Tried welding but the weld had maybe 10% of the strength so broke right away. The material is not suitable for welding I guess. Then looked at a Mercedes bumper repair video and they used 2 component plastic glue and a weave mat . So I tried that (like €/$ 75,- in glue primer, glue cartridges, mat, plastic filler and the 2k gun) and it is very strong but still flexible. Then I had the whole bumper professionally painted. Saved me like €/$ 1200,- on a new bumper.
