I bought this wonderful car back in August of 2013 with 68k of previous use. In great shape, detailed out like new, all works, and runs like a scalded ape........

The problem is, I can't drive it at night because of the headlight adjustment. I THINK that it has replacement headlights of some kind. No, it does not have any kind of adjustment on the dash, nor headlight washers.

When I do adjust the 2 adjusters on the back of each headlight the whole thing must move as the relationship between high and low remains the same........The problem is:

When the low beams are high enough to drive with, the high beams are HIGH in the trees so that I can hunt squirels at night. When I adjust the high beams correctly, the low beams are WAYYYYYY low and not shining further than perhaps 20 or 30 yards down the road.......Further than that and all is black.......

Yes, the adjusters work, one of them makes them go left or right and the other raises or lowers them together. So.......I have searched and searched for an answer on here and other forums and find NOTHING about this situation.

Did the PO buy lights that are of inferior design or what is the deal......Besides paying a huge amount of money for factory's what aftermarket system will fit my model and adjust out like they are supposed to..........THANKS for the help........God bless........Dennis

Yup, post a photo so we can tell weather or not they are after market. I'm curious cuz I've been researching installing aftermarket headlights and there is a constant complaint about adjustment (or lack there of). Chick, you have aftermarkets right? What are yours and how are they?

It seems a number of the aftermarket retrofitted reflector headlights have that issue where the highbeams can flag down the mothership when the low beams are adjusted properly!

I would think 20-30 yards visibility on dipped beam is about what you get with standard properly adjusted headlamps. I am a body repair technician and have always found aftermarket headlights to be a bit hit or miss with adjustments door mirrors are the same some work fine others of the same brand don't. I think its a quality control thing at manufacture

Perhaps, and I know I am wrong in the above 20 or 30 yards.....Make that feet.........perhaps truly at the most 30 or 40 feet and then there is a definate black line and the light angles up over to the right side of the road. The light picture is more or less a triangle shape with the point over on the left side of the road and the high side of the triangle over just off of the right side of the road........
When the high beams kick in they are a broad spotlight down the middle of the road........
Actually when I drive with the high beams on it is a rare day for folks to blink their lights at me, asking me to dim them.......If I do that on the curvy, no lines painted on the road, back roads that I live on........BANG......I am totally overdriving my headlights at say 30MPH......A truly dangerous situation........Yes, I can drive with my highbeams on; but then they are acting like the dim ought to look........Again, when I bring the dims up to the proper height the brights are in the top of the trees..........

Ok.........here are some pics that I hope are helpful to you in trying to figure out what I have and what I can do to fix the situation I am in.......I hate to trash these lights; but if I can get off for 2 or 3 hundred Dollars to get the proper ones, these are dangerous enough to do that..........God bless.....Dennis

Lots of people have switched out there OEM's for the ones you currently have (yours look way better than OEM but are hit and miss on weather they function well or not). Your probably best keeping an eye out for OEM headlights someone is selling. New OEM's will be more than $300. I'm currently looking at a set of "Dectane" headlights but am on the fence with purchase cuz I just can't be sure if they will work properly.

the triangle you speak of sounds like my Kawasaki C14, where the light shines out and then there is just a dead cut off of light. I find it to be very deadly for night driving on my bike. as I can't see anything in the road past 40 feet ahead of me at highway speed til its too late!!!
its the design of the reflector inside the light. if this is your problem then only two ways to go. replace them or find a happy medium between low and high beams!

These headlights are absolutely terrible, they look awesome but they function very poor! To get the best use out of them, you have to buy HID light bulbs for them and just adjust your low beam accordingly and forget you have high beams!!

E-mailed manufacturer and they said they use H4 bulb, and a H4 bulb is a High/Low in one bulb and may take care of the problem of only one beam being able to be aimed properly. Thay have no "Halo" or "angle eye", but still would be an improvement on OEM styling.

These headlights are probably the best solution, they don't look as cool, but they are certainly better.

that's a good price for two headlights/bulbs complete with pneumatic adjusters too .no good for the uk tho as German spec will be left hand drive

Thanks Dontino..........It's 20f out there today with snow blowing around. I will try this in a few days and get back.

Does this type of headlight assembly come out the same way as outlined in the owners manual????

Can one just purchase an HID bulb and it fits right into the low beam slot/place?..............Is an HID the same as Halogen?....I have a halogen headlight on my old BMW R/90 with one bulb........So If it is possible to get a HID/Halogen bulb that will fit that has high and low in one bulb, what is the problem with just putting the high beam wiring into this bulb along with the low beam?????????
I imagine one will have to get a new plug with the wiring necessary to do this; but if possible that would be great...........

Then, if one is able to do that AND do the screw adjustment adaptation to the back of the high beam..........WOW....would one ever have some lighting........
