Hi,
I just became a member and want to say hallo to all memebers.
I have SLK 230 yearmodel 2001. This is only the second season I am driving. It is in very good condition with only just below 30000 km on the meter. It’s a really nice car and I enjoy every mile driving it.
I am living in Sweden and since the winters are not really suitable for driving with the roof down I have the car garaged during the colder season. I brought it out some weeks ago and when I tested the roof everything worked just fine. However, about a week ago we suddenly got some nice weather and I should open up the car, pressed the knob but nothing happened. I did some simple checks and the microswitch in the trunk, for the curtain, worked as it is supposed. I checked the fuses but obviously the wrong one.
Anyway I left the car with the Mercedes dealer’s garage because I thought they are the most competent even if they probably also is the most expensive alternative. What they found out was that fuse no. 7 was gone and when they replaced it the new was gone at once. As this made it impossible to make any diagnosis with their computer (!?) it did not really help me to find the problem.
The answer I now have got is that there is a shortcurcuit somewhere but they have no clue where it can be. The only thing they say, at the dealer, is that they can start in one end and just continue. This makes me rather worried since it may drain my wallet completely.
Apart from the problem with the roof the car runs perfect.
I anyone has experienced this problem I would appreciate any clue on how to start finding and isolating the problem.
Hoping to get some help and save some money.
