So California - Banning Pass to Palm Desert via Hwy 243 and Hwy 74

We needed a day off so we took a little road trip as follows:
Start - Banning CA> Hwy 243> Idyllwild> Hwy 74 (East) > Palm Desert - End
It was a good trip with lots of different things to see pine trees in the mountains, near Idyllwild, and barren desert terrain near Palm Desert. It is a fun easy trip that takes only a few hours once your in the area. Idyllwild is a great place to stop midpoint for food and refreshments.

This is a nice little trip that does not take an entire day.

Cheers - Jan

Thanks Kevin - it was a fun day. It would be fun to do some local road trips in our area. We have pets so its difficult to do trips that go over a day. Even so there are lots of places to go. Lets set something up soon . Jan

I was just looking at the map wondering where Hwy 343 was and realized you probably meant "243"? When did you guys do Joshua Tree? (Saw your Garage pics.) After driving Death Valley last weekend, it would probably be a nice scenic drive. Though, I imagine it gets pretty hot there too. May have to wait 'til Fall now. But we could do a Big Bear or Arrowhead loop. It'd be cooler up there.

I understand the pet thing (though we don't have any right now.) But, are you guys heading to Tahoe next month?

Pets? We call them "our children". During the Tahoe excursion Max and Mandie will be staying at a "Pet Resort" as well. The two of them will share a "suite" complete with a television playing Animal Planet and movies with other 4 legged movie stars (Max loves watching television). Between daily visits to "Doggy Day Camp" and Canine Ice Cream each day during "Yappy Hour", their hotel bill will be as much or more than the daily rate at the Mont Blue Resort and Casino! Only the best for the "wifey's kids"!

Kevin: Thanks for pointing out the big whoops error... it has been fixed We go to Joshua Tree all the time - it is practically in our back yard and we have a membership. It is actually cooler than Palm Springs by about 15 degrees so it is a good place to go most times of the year. It is also a nice loop down to the 10 via Cottonwood Springs Road but it is gravel part of the way I hope they finish their road work soon. Anyway, if anyone is up this way and wants to do a cruise through the JT park send me a PM. Big Bear or Arrowhead loop is very good too! We did Big Bear via Oak Glen and Hwy 38 in the fall - tried to photo the trees turning colors. We are game for that trip too. Going your way down 74 to Dana Point is always other option...

We would love to go to Tahoe for the SLK meet up. I have been nursing a ankle back to health the past 4 weeks - that's why we did not go to death valley But I will talk to the spouse about going. IT WOULD BE A FUN TRIP! I can take vacation time with short notice..

Stinger: Yea our kids have four legs We love them but they do keep us from doing a lot of things... And they are large dogs to boot.. We have looked into some places to lodge our pets in Palm Springs and Beaumont. Renaissance Pet Resort & Spa in Beaumont is our first choice. Hopefully by late April the ankle thing will be much better.
