slk 32 amg 0-60 video

I haven't checked the 0-60 on any official timing, but its clear the car lives up to its fast reputation.

Thanks for sharing! Your SLK32 looks nice and fast 0-60, probably even faster with better traction in first gear. Its hard not to trigger the esp or spin the tires with esp off under hard accel on the SLK32s.

sea level here, the area is very flat. Yes I did think about taking off the traction control....and letting the wheels spin up a bit....but decided driving and using the camera was enough

I wanted to make a few more, but its very hard to capture the sweet exhaust tone on a standard digital camera....the audio is quite poor.

I have a couple of other driving clips, maybe worth a post... TA Dave

0-60

I just went out and did a couple of 0-60 pulls. I used my Garmin 60 GPS's stopwatch, not fully accurate but should be pretty close. It was 55F, and right at 7000'. There was a slight uphill.

pull 1 6.89 Sec ESP On Cold tires
pull 2 6.52 Sec ESP Off tires warm
pull 3 7.23 Sec ESP Off Way too much wheel spin , and the last on this road, figured that cloud of smoke wore out my welcome..
Pull 4: I didn't time this pull, but I took a video.

Thanks for sharing the vids and info. I'll have to practice my launches and make some 0-60 vids.

So, what is the best way to launch?
I use the brake and get the RPMs up (ESP off), but try not to let the tires spin, then release the brake the same time I go WOT, making sure I get past the TPS switch. Might be the tires I have, it hooks up quickly, but doesn't seem to really accelerate until second gear, then hold on.

There must be a big difference in power on SLK32's at 7000 ft above sea level vs 50 ft above sea level. If I have the ESP off and quickly take my right foot off the brake and then floor it and hold WOT, my tires spin (and my car fishtails) all through first gear and into 2nd. While that is kinda fun, for better 0-60 times, I have to feather the gas at first until 10 to 20 mph and then go WOT. I am not well practiced at fast luanches yet and on concrete pavement/freeway shoulder (worse traction than on asphalt pavement), my best 0-60 ESP off time is 5.2 measured by my G-tech pro meter. Using ESP, I still get wheelspin if I take my foot off the brake and go to WOT immediately. Easier to launch with a little feathering of the throttle at first with ESP on. I get 5.01 sec 0-60 this way...still on concrete pavement.

I'm eager to try more 0-60 launches when I get back into town. I got my G-tech meter the day before I left and discovered the concrete freeway shoulder wasn't the best for traction. Didn't have time to find that smooth, empty, asphalt highway to try to get better times. I'll take a vid when I get back in town and get some more practice launches under my belt.

I don't think I have enough air to feather it, it comes out of the spin really quick, if I don't load it up too much with the brakes (leaving a cloud of smoke ). The exception to this is WOT while turning, yea fishtail.. I must say wet pavement is a blast.

I think I need to try shifting, and starting out in first, but need a G-tech or someone to help time.

responding to your email i only launch at the track. i dont race on the street to much power for my street tires.
i use goodyear eagle ss drag radials on clk rims. roll them in the water and wet em up then brake and stand on the gas to smoke the tires clean them and heat them. ease out of the gas and roll to the line. esp off in 1st gear manual mode and brake. stage and raise the rpms to 1800 and final stage. green light relaese and stand on the throttle. after that launch stay in the gas never lift a=until you pass the traps. car does everything else.
BE WARNED!! the rear diff. in this car is the weak point. after 350 rwhp and repeated launches the rear has been known to fail tearing the spider gears out and toasting the rear. use dr's and race at your own peril!

Have you replaced/upgraded yours?

This is absolutely true.

When I upgraded to a Kleemann LSD I have to replace mine as Kleemann would not put the LSD in without fixing that also...you could see the tears in the metal bar. Its mainly the side to side sliding that tears it up.

My best 0-60 with the G-Tech in my windshield is 4.01 secs.

Ok, I am really bad at holding the cam steady with my left hand while driving, but I found some good clean asphalt and practiced a little. My best times were with ESP "on" and about 25% throttle to get rolling to 10 mph and then WOT the rest of the way. Recorded a 0-60 run on vid:

Turned around and reversed directions.

Both runs timed with my G-tech Pro: 4.40 seconds going north and 4.32 seconds on the same stretch going south. Average of the 2 runs peak HP measured by the G-tech pro is 281.

If I try to think of how to compare that to a 4th gear pull on a real dyno, I add back:

7 HP for drive line loss for being in 2nd gear vs 4th
9 HP for rolling resistance at 65 mph (assuming 0.012 Crr)
12 HP for driving 65 mph (where peak HP was measured) aerodynamice loss (assuming .32 CD and 20 sq. ft frontal area).

So I think it compares to approximately 309 RWHP in 4th gear on a dyno, but not sure if I have the adjustments correct. At the time of these runs my performance mods are green air filters, resonator deleted, and approx 100 lbs of weight reduction, including approx 50 lbs reduction in rotating mass.

Note: My best 0-60 time with ESP "off" was 4.99 sec, just too much wheel spin through most of first gear, even launching at 25% throttle. And still had wheel spin in 2nd gear pretty heavy too.

Nice video Dave. It never ceases to amaze me either just how fast they accelerate but I tend to take it easier at the lights now because there's always some muppet prepared to jump them.

Santa Pod (UK) could be worth a visit - we don't have many drag strips in the UK and they do a 'Run What Ya Brung':

http://www.rwyb.co.uk/

It'd be nice to show people what we've got nd get a 1/4mile as well.
