Resolved - Cracked air intake line to the turbo??

Can anyone tell me if they've had to "replace the intake pipe from air filter to turbo"?
This is what I was told at the dealership yesterday but didn't have performed and now today, my check engine light came on and I have no power behind my acceleration.
I have an appt to take it to my favorite mechanic tomorrow but I'm a little afraid to drive it!
Thoughts??? Suggestions???

The line P/N 2710902029 appears to deteriorate and costs over $200.00

Do you have a picture ??

I don't know about mercs specifically, but ive looked after maintained and modified turbo cars in the past,
depending on where the problem is in the chain
- the AFM will be reading more air than is getting to the engine, so the car will be overfueling like a bitch. You should be able to run it, just keep the revs as low as possible to keep it off boost.
- Alternatively the turbo will be sucking in unmetered air thru the crack and it will be underfueling and the car will be running lean which is potentially far more damaging to the engine

You should be able to run it, just keep the revs as low as possible to keep it off boost. How far do you need to go?

Thanks all - I ended up paying my favorite mechanic a total of just of $300 to replace the intake pipe...which is really a plastic tube. The part was $270.
I was able to drive it to the shop - all of about 20 miles - before rush hour traffic and the heat of the day.

I have a feeling that it was cracked for a while, the compression (and gas mileage) is much better now that its repaired.

Not entirely sure, to be honest, and by the time I had to replace it - it was pretty much trash...according to the mechanic.
