RHS roof / front pillar - water ingress

Hi all,

So I've been getting water coming down from the roof centre section on the right hand side, when i brake and accelerate/turn corners within a few minutes of starting. Clearly water is coming in and being "held" somewhere in the rubber in the right hand section. I can't see where it could be. I have cleaned the drain holes and lubricated the rubber, as i feel the water isn't flowing (away) from the roof section, down into the front pillar section, but those holes are clear and not blocked.

Any ideas, as its a shower - most mornings - as we are getting torrential rain in the UK right now.

Cheers
James

I posted the "how to" in another thread.

The way I fixed both sides on my 2012 SLK250, was to gently open the gap, which is only on the sides touching the side panels, and clean this area well with rags, alcohol, and compressed air. Tape off all painted areas next to the seal. Next with a fresh tube of black RTV, gently open the gap in the seal and spoon in some RTV, just enough to fill the small 1/16" gap you created, working your way the length of the seal. The seal is bonded on the ends, so don't force a gap there. Finish by wiping forward and back to remove as much of the RTV on the surface, don't press down hard. Goal is to fill the space between lip of the seal and the side panel, this will glue the seal to the side panel.

Hi, I have also had the same problem, water flows through the top of the plastic side covers ( rubber seal underneath has gone bad), into the headlining and then pours out, usually when to brake, accelerate or fast cornering.

You should be able to do a temporary fix if you get the roof dry by using a good quality waterproof tape to seal the glass to side covers on 2 sides and windscreen and back screen on the other 2. That should stop the water flow into the car until you can get a proper fix. Cannot drop the roof though but if the rain is anyway close to what we are having in Southampton this week then could not do that anyway. Good luck and hope you are able to fix it soon.
