Gps Antenna

Hi we have just purchased a Becker Nav unit for our R172. It doesn't seem to be seeing any satellites so is the factory gps module toast ?

Is there a way to check and where is it - I have seen different suggestions - in the rear view mirror area, under the bonnet or in the boot ?

Many thks

The car has 508 pre-wiring for the Becker. We added the becker but it can't see any satellites. Somewhere else said pull the fuse but both fuse boxes seem somewhat inaccessible - couldn't open the one in the boot with a 'flat' object - what the he'll does that mean !

The rear view mirror has two bulges on top - are those for the antennae ?

Not much technical advice on here ?

And you were a little vague

Now if pre wired you should have the antennae, it will plug into the module in the dash.
Is the wire there and it is connected?

The antenna should be under the grill in the dash for the non com and navi.

Not sure how - where is the antenna could be much clearer.

It was pre-wired at the factory so I don't have the antenna hence the question abut its location.. The Becker module is plugged in and seems to function but can't see a satellite.

What is the non com ?

Well it would have been helpful to know if you were trying to fix your existing navi or adding this and as you have now stated whether you had a prewired car.

Btw the antenna might not be part of the pre wiring go and check if it's there.

You can look up parts in this link https://slk-links.neocities.org/EPCLINKS.HTM

If you search for the sat nav antenna you should find an exploded view.
Hopefully, that might give a clue to it's location.

It can be laborious going through all of the options, but ...

'508 pre-wiring for the Becker'
I take it you have sourced a datacard, or bought new with that option?

Gps Antenna

If I disconnect the battery do I need to have the code number for the radio ?. This may be easier than pulling the fuse which is another suggested fix from elsewhere.

Thks

No code as they are tied to vin for your car only.
If someone puts a second hand unit it they have to tie it to the vin.

So I managed to find a used Gps antenna from the interweaving and took it to a local specialist for fitting. They reckon the head unit and dash plus the air vents need to come out and 3 hours labour minimum. Do I need to find another specialist ?
