Any more info?

Is the rest of the car locked?

If not open door, push door unlock switch.

If the whole car is locked call RACV.

,,,,,, And it’s a public holiday too so all the locksmiths and dealers are shut. Bugga!

If you can get in, look for the button with padlock amongst the main switches.

If you have access to the vehicle you might be able to activate the electric trunk lock.
Also try to disconnect the battery to reset alarm status and attempt to unlock again.

Are you sure the boot lid is locked rather than just jammed?

Is it possible that something in the boot got caught in the lock and that’s why it wouldn’t open then and also won’t when the doors are unlocked?

Lower the roof until the boot lifts and then turn the ignition off? You may be able to reach the key ring round the edges of the separator using a magnet. If the separator is open, this obviously won't work. Edit - stupid suggestion - ignore me, I was half asleep when I wrote it!

I don't think I can lock my only set of keys in the boot because the boot only locks when I press the button on the keys. That means I can open the boot with the button above the license plate. (I have had self locking boots in the past and managed to lock myself out twice in bad situations so was pleased to have the Mercedes system on this car)

You can by using the trunk open button since the car will remain in locked condition once trunk is closed again.

Thanks for the explanation - sadly my confidence that it couldn't happen to me has been shattered . I hadn't thought about that sequence but it is something for me to avoid doing in future. I must also check to see whether the car locks itself automatically after a short while if only the boot is opened after unlocking all doors.

With mine if you unlock the boot with the key fob the boot lifts and opens andunsets alarm. When I shut the boot again it locks and sets the alarm without the key . So if my keys were in the boot that is where they would stay.

May be not the cheapest but still reasonable and fast solution: contact Mercedes Benz Me, explain the situation, subscribe to minimum possible service option and get your trunk remotely open right after completion. Personally had this service performed on 2 occasions. And if you install their cellphone application you can do that by yourself next time.

Ahh that is truly likely the cheapest option.
I don't remember if the trunk can be actuated via Xentry with ignition off..

1 I checked and, for me, using the main unlock button is the way to do it because the car doesn't lock itself when the boot is opened and shut.
2 If it is possible to release the boot by electronics without needing the key in the ignition, calling out the roadside assistance may be cheaper - I did that with one of my other cars when I had an engine warning light come on and got a completely free analysis and clearance of faults done by the man in the van.
3 Does Mercedes Me do this if you only have the plug in adapter and not the built in module?

Mercedes Me experience

My personal experience was when I press lock button on key fob while unloading groceries, hand getting busy, put it in the trunk, grubbed two hand full of bags and shut the trunk. When I realized stupidity of situation I call them through Mercedes Me app on my android, because my 2008 SLK55 AMG before updated version does not support many automatic functions from Mercedes Me app. But one can get their call center assistance with it, including vehicle soft check up. I would say that 'they" actually have much more variety of the electronic "involvement" than they advertise...
