R172 - Manually lower vario roof

Possibly a unique problem but I am unable to lower the roof because there is a fault on the LH side window motor or it's electrical connection presently in the closed position. It seems from the WIS that the window/motor can only be removed via the rear shelf by lowering the roof and the operating sequence first requires the window to lower. Is the manual procedure for the R171 applicable, I can't see the access point for depressurising like the R171 shows.
Appreciate any help as the local Merc dealers are suggesting removing/reinstalling :the complete roof at major cost.

Welcome to SLKWorld.com: The #1 Mercedes-Benz SLK Forum from Florida!

First please update your vehicle year and model (year?: 1996-2017, model?: 32, 200, 230, 250, 280, 300,320,350,55) in your profile as it helps the members answer your questions which usually are based on that information if you haven’t. This takes about 30 seconds to do.
Follow exactly to update: ‘Usercp’ at the top of page, then ‘edit your details’ on the left side, ‘additional information’ near the bottom, edit your ‘vehicle’. Info in your garage does not update your profile.

Some tips to make your visit here more enjoyable:
If you haven’t, please use the 'search' feature at the top right of the page for your questions as they have probably been asked before. Remember, ‘Search’ is your friend.
If you wish to become PM (Private Message) capable or to ‘edit’, you need 15 posts. To get those 15 posts quickly, just go to the ‘New members introduce yourself here’ section and welcome enough new members to obtain your needed posts to PM/edit. You can always pm a moderator.
Want to post a picture? Start a new thread or make a post, click ‘edit’, click on the ‘paper clip’ or ‘advanced’ and/or ‘manage attachments’ then ‘choose file’ then ‘upload’ and ‘submit’! If Iphone pics, you need to rename any additional pics as Iphone names its pics all the same, image.jpg.
Want to ‘like’ or thank’ someone’s comments? Use the ‘like’ button to the right or the ‘Thanks’ button, bottom right of any post you like. This saves you having to comment.
New members should be aware that the 'New Posts' link next to the 'Search' link top right of the info bar is a great way to see all of the posts you have missed since you were on the forum last. Remember to click 'mark forums read' under ‘quick links’ when you leave.
FREE!! Post your vin in the Vehicle Datacard Request section to get a free datacard (options on your car). You must update your profile with vehicle info and your location and post an introduction first.

Saw a procedure on You tube, I'll try to look it up. FFS man don't let stealer do you, they'll leave you face down in a ditch robbed raped and pillaged

OK, here it is. It shows how to manually raise but surely you can do it in reverse order to lower

I find it very strange that this video has been on you tube for a while and was viewable until I posted it in here. Now I can't even look at it and I'm not sure if anybody else can either. Can anyone view the video? It was on the r172 manual roof closing, its like the guy was alerted and closed the video for private viewing. Doesn't make a bit of sense to me, why post it on youtube only to deny viewing it! Any thoughts on the matter? I should have screen recorded it and stored it so I would have it, now I can't find any "how to" on the matter whatsoever. Hope like hell the roof not closing issue never happens to me as I am not comfortable not knowing the procedure.

I was able to watch it when it was first posted, but now I can't either.

If I'm not signed in to YouTube, I get a "Please sign in to view this video" message. Once signed in, I get "This video is private" - looks like the poster of the video has made it private. As Rob has already commented, why would someone post something useful like this to YouTube and then make it private!

Well, only thing I can figure is the dude made it a pay per view (subscribe to channel bs). Must have seen it had a lot of views and decided to profit from the info. I shall continue to try and find info on this because I think it is a MUST have and I can't imagine why this wouldn't be in the owner's manual. It would be nice if someone in here had access to this info and posted a PDF or something. I'm not sure how many problems peeps have had with R172 vario roof but it so far it seems that they will eventually become a problem and having an emergency roof closing procedure would be good to have on hand in car.

If I remember correctly they were put online by a UK MB Owners club. They are still available in WIS but unfortunately they can't be downloaded .
Don't know how the guys from that ckub did it, maybe they had a copy of WIS on DVD? And got summoned by MB to get them offline because of copyright infringement? Just guessing.
Anyway, the vid for varioroof troubleshooting in the sticky R171 General section is gone too. Might as well be removed then.
I'll see if I can do something with a free video screen recorder.

Ya its strange how it was done right after I posted it on here. Banks said MB monitors these sites regularly for copyright issues so maybe it was a trigger IDK. Guess they don't monitor Youtube. It goes to show just how greedy corporations worry sooo much about losing profits (lose more money trying to prevent it), they keep their customers ignorant of repairing their vehicles so that they have to come in to get the whole rigamaroo runaround. Your car needs this your car needs that bs, and its gonna cost you umpteen thousand dollars. Soooo concerned about it they would render their customers helpless with top stuck down (guess they figure maybe it would rain on them too and they could make even more money repairing the water damage. FFS MB, let us have emergency roof closing procedure!

Got a WIS subscription. It's included in the Dutch SLK club membership.
Got a simple videorecorder and got the vid as a mp4 file. Unfortunately without audio. Audio is not really needed as it has als written instructions in sync with the vid at the bottom. You already want that or can you wait intil I got that fixed. That is if I manage to get it fixed ofcourse.

Here's the link for the vid https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4...HVfTVlCek82d1E

It just dawned on me. It's a screenrecorder so the only thing you get is video, no audio. If you really need that I need a mic to record it from the PC speakers. And I don't know if I have something like that still lying around here somewhere...

Thanks to all who replied. I already had the video from the WSM but there were differences to my vehicle which possibly only apply to the European model e.g there is no access to the depressurising point behind the rear document pouch and the connector for the window motor is also not accessible by removing rear speaker and pulling back the rear lining. The rear shelf motor is accessible from the boot but the side windows and motor/connection are innaccessible and need to lower first. I have tried the procedure to attach a temporary made up cable connected via the connector in the rear harness in the boot but this confirms the fault is on the motor or it's connection. This is probably why the dealer is suggesting removal/reinstallation of the complete roof.

Well, apparently he is correct about the whole European difference thing because mine is the same way There is no access to the pressure relief valve behind pocket (although I'm sure its behind shelf) so I wonder what the procedure for the American version is now (just add remove shelf?) Probably intentionally done by MBUSA as a definite "got to go to the stealer". I wonder if any body has had an issue with this and was able to resolve without having to go to the dealer just to get the top back up.
