A big box came today, with the label showing A1727900045 / 9H23 for a panoramic headliner in black.
The pictures show before and after on the roof, and the removed headliner, which shows where the clips are. Also, I've shown how you can peel back the original trim to make sure you can see through the roof before ordering the part - newer ones have been painted to prevent this.
Hope this helps someone in the future. It's a pretty easy job where you just gently pull off the old and press in the new.
I`m owning one of the first R172 SLKs from March 2011 with a panoramic roof (dark) it has a Logo of "Webasto". There are two versions of the panoramic roof. The first ones were probably made of plastic and over time having the problem of bending and leaking. Some customers complaining about this topic in Germany and partly the plastic panorama roof was replaced by a glass one for free/goodwill of Mercedes-Benz and partly by charging just the working time in the workshop.
Is this mentioned panoramic roof A 172 790 00 45 - 9H23 made by glas, if so it would be a cheap change, `cause the change in general costs about 1.500 - 3.000 EUR´s at a Mercedes-Benz Dealer.
Both these Part numbers refer to roof 'Liners'. They are the bits which fit inside the car. They are NOT the roof itself.
A172 790 0045 (Open panel (allows the sun to shine into an SLK which is equipped with a transparent roof; and not all SLKs are equipped in this way!)
A172 790 0245 Daimler R172 Swartz. (Full panel) Prevents the sun shining through a transparent roof)
Hope that helps.
Having the luck to find this thread and also finding my 2013 slk55 has the appropriate see thru’ glass panel, I ordered the roof panel from a company in Germany only to be told because of delays in MB’s system it cannot be delivered until April!
Back to the drawing board. Oh and it was €252 with delivery (£230?).

I’ve been searching on line, they all seem to be interested in selling services or cars, no parts department, I think I’m a little out of touch. Going to have a search but I suppose it’s down to ringing them. I’ll keep at it as it seems such an easy fix according to the posters who have carried it out.

Easy to do, this is the part number A1727900045 / 9H23 for a panoramic headliner in black. Good luck!
Did the roof this morning. Fairly easy as everyone has said, some clips came away when removing the old one but easily remedied. I think you have to be reasonably courageous in tackling this and pull fairly hard to get the clips out, but they do come out ok. Spent another half an hour checking that I had done it correctly! Can’t believe how good the result is with very little outlay.
Happy Christmas everyone.
I am wondering if the Magic Sky control goes bad? I am looking at buying a 2012 SLK and I have two different choices, one with the Magic Sky (Panoramic Roof) or one without.
I wanted to know if anyone has had problems with darkening feature. I live in Arizona, so I need the ability to make it dark in the summer.
MB dealer contacted me 2 days after I ordered to say it was in, removed the full headliner at home and fitted the new pano headliner in the dealers car park in about 5 minutes, but at £211 its an expensive piece of plastic but hey ho the wifes happy.
