Camshaft Adjustment Solenoid Wiring Harness

This a TSB for a wire patch in the event of oil leak on Cam Adjuster, USA.

I did this modification on my 2005 C200, oil can leak from the cam solenoid into the wiring harness and by capilliary action travel to the ECU and the Lambda Sensor with very expensive consequences. When I sold the C200 i removed the modified harness's and fitted them on my SLK. It's very easy to do, just unplug the harness from the engine and fit the mod in between.
The part number on my invoice was MA271 150 27 33 described as D48G Starter Line, and the unit price was 18 + VAT in 2011.

Hi,
will this affect the transmission too?

The car wouldn't shift drive or reverse. I'm pretty sure it is the conductor plate, but im not technical.

Hi DF,
It can shift into d or r, but when push the gas, it just rev up but doesn't move as if it is in neutral, I'm guessing mostly the conductor plate

Towed it to MB Fort Washington. They said it was valve body n will cost $2000+. Bummer

If anyone who has had the wiring harness adapters installed on their 272 engine could you post a pic of how the new wiring pieces are fitted. I would greatly appreciate it.

As a precautionary measure I purchased the four wiring pieces to install in case my solenoids leak oil. Problem is the 6 inch sections of new wiring are rather stiff and there is little to no slack in the original wiring at the original connects so not sure how to squeeze these wiring additions into place without bending them as it seems they are designed not to bend.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

They plug in between the original wire connection and the sensor. It is a solid wire and not twisted wire as oil will not wick a solid wire. Oil can wick a twisted wire. That is why is stiff. You can bend it so it will fit.

Following the advice provided I installed the corrective wire pieces. While I do not question the accuracy of Gbarringer100 comments, the center section of the pieces do not take a bend and hold it as a typical solid wire would do. They spring back to the original straight form so all the bending that is required to get these wire sections in place occurs at the extreme ends where the wiring goes into the connectors. This created sharp bends and some stress on the wires at the connectors so I re-routed as best as I could to reduce the sharpness of those bends at the connectors. I used wire zip ties to secure.

Hope others find this helpful.

Cam solenoid recall

Hello, all. I received a notification from my local dealership about a cam solenoid recall affecting my vehicle. I'm currently traveling but will have it taken care of when I'm back home.

I know there was a cam wiring harness campaign previously (I haven't had it done), and am wondering if this is the same.

Is there anything I should watch out for or have done additionally with respect to this repair?
