Will an R170 SLK200 Head Rest Wind Deflector fit an R171 (it's the basic fabric one supplied with the car)?

I've got a deflector fitted to my SLK 170 that is full width and lower than the boot/trunk line. This gives the very best in sealing and wind deflection. It has a Mercedes logo and has programmable illumination for night use. It didn't cost anything like the amount quoted. Just be patient and search the Internet. A word of warning, though. There is an inferior version that is thinner in section and is flimsy, especially at speed. The screen I have is about 7 mm thick and is very robust.

question about the mesh deflectors...how is the visibility though it when the top is up? I just purchased a used 2010 SLK 300 which came with a cheap clear plexiglass deflector. Works great with the top down but when the top is up there is a lot of glare and it also reflects images of vehicles coming towards me. Bottom line, I don't think it is safe so I am looking for other options.

mesh sucks bottom line
cheap clear plastic? you would need to tilt the angle of it

other than that, like floaters in your eye, you will soon learn to ignore any glare/reflections

i always recommend the mb oem plexiglass. it was made specifically for the r171. expensive? yes..in 2005 they were $810
now about $450 on ebay

but they look great

Well, I met up with @Trev5 and @mike350 and now I have a mesh deflector and it works. The difference was immediately noticeable on the drive home.

Perhaps it doesn’t work as well as the groovy oem plastic and glass one, but well enough that I can spend my money on something critical.

Again I’m astonished at the thoughtfulness and generosity of forum members. It was really pleasant meeting them and being infected with their enthusiasm, as well as amazed by their knowledge.

Happy trails everyone,

Richard
