Fog lights and Recirc mode always on?

Does anyone know if there is a way of programming the car to do the following:

1. Recirculate mode stays on all the time when selected (or automatically selected in high heat)

2. Fog lights come on with headlights in "Auto" mode

The first one baffles me that they didn't design it that way to begin with. Have they never lived in high heat like here in Houston? I'm constantly having to select that every time I get in the car to cool it down quicker - it literally takes half the time as cooling all that hot outside air... My 2003 Saab does this all by itself. My 2008 ML55 does not and it has basically the same kind of climate controls as the SLK

The fog lights I don't get either. I can only turn them on in the manual on mode, which defeats the purpose of having auto mode. In the ML, I was able to change something in the menus that let me leave the headlight switch in the on position all the time with the fog lights on, but when I turn the car off, they go off so its no big deal - they're basically on when the car is on. Can't find a way to do that on the SLK

I have use of a friend's xentry laptop for another week, so if three is a way to do either of these it would make me love my car even more...

Recirc is on permanently on mine once selected.

The fogs could be set as DRLs I think. That would bring them on in auto mode.

@i860
@VII7
will be able to set the records straight.

Fog lights are not meant to be on all the time, I'm not aware of coding options to change this.

Recirculation behavior can be changed via coding.

I can't be certain, but I 'think' I have seen threads where fog lights can be recoded to act as DRLs.
There might be a requirement for a different bulb wattage though and it may also need coding to
dim the resultant drl when main lights are on.

Yes, by using MB Star/DAS there are a number of settings of the A/C controller that includes several re-circ settings.

Fog lights can be used as DRL if the car has the SmartTop controller added and selected using that controller.

Guess I am confused: Florida also tends to get a bit warm and I generally leve my windows open a bit when must park in the sun. That said, the outside air is generally tens of degrees cooler than the inside for the first few minutes. Personally use recirc mostly in a cool car in heavy traffic to keep outside odors down.

Also, SmartTop.
You can drop all the windows on 2 presses of open.
Close/lock car with one press.
Rear windows stay open.

Think that's right.
I discovered it by accident.

Smart Top can set fogs as DRL's and the windows can be set up to different things with various clicks, roof down and windows up, roof down and windows down, windows up ( double click lock) and windows down double click unlock)
I believe also Smart Top can now activate reversing lamps for a brighter coming home feature?

One question, how Foggy does it get in Seattle

This.

Foglights as DRLs during the day, ok. Foglights on at night when there's no fog - PITA for dazzling. There have been incidents of road-rage due to the latter....

Against the law to run fog lights when conditions don't demand it...at least in the UK:

"You must not use front or rear fog lights unless visibility is seriously reduced (see Rule 226 of the Highway Code) as they dazzle other road users and can obscure your brake lights. You MUST switch them off when visibility improves."

In Dallas, the horn is on by default. Or so it seems with many cars. Also Houston. Horns are disconnected in Austin.
