Motorised side mirror noisy

Hi, I noticed that my passenger side folding mirror is jerky and makes a clicking and sometimes a squeaking noise when i lock and unlock the car. Is it possible to lubricate the mechanism to make it move freely please? If so, should I use WD40? There is a lot of dust in the air where we are at the moment. could it need dismantling and cleaning perhaps? I need to get it sorted quickly as doing a 1000Km journey in a couple of days. Should I perhaps take it to my local dealer? Thanks for any advice.

Be careful if you use WD or similar.
Any excess will drip onto the paintwork.
This can be long after you sprayed.

I went for spray lithium grease. Less of an issue.

No doubt someone will have a better solution.

I will try to put the mirror at the maxium position and try to use a can of lithium grease with a long straw.

Mine did that and no amount of spray would sort it out in the end it also had movement in it and would flap about in the wind .

At the time I bought a new mirror motor from mb that comes with the section that bolts to the door ( not the mirror or housing ) and this was over Ł200...god knows what a full mirror costs.

Now you can get a full mirror off ebay from a breakers yard for less than the motor I got off MB.
